I can see Daisy Pearce having an absolute picnic against us too be honest.

She grew up a Carlton supporter so hopefully she’ll go a bit easy on us.

Hard to believe Acres & Saad are in the ‘never again’ bucket, but here we are.

Wilson the mid could get a look in at some point. The half back has too many ahead of him - and Charleson is behind him.

Ison & Moir are stuck behind Kemp & McGovern - both kicking 2-3 majors a week. Still, there’s an opening if either can impact across the middle tonight. Flynn Young is the ranking challenger there.

Should be its own thread, or what do you think thread.

Simply, the Elijah situation dates back to preseason last year, and it has been nothing short of a fluid situation; Thursday included.

I would ask if anyone believes Carlton have handled the Elijah situation well, in the last year? I say more than well, they have set new standards of care. Carlton have ben lenient and did everything they could for Elijah to return to full health.

Some of the comments I'm hearing, or should I say rumours, suggest players knew something is wrong with Elijah. I can't believe that something highly unusual was taking place. Leader, and flat mate/ carer, would have notived. His brother, Ollie, who has known him since birth, would have known.

The reason we all paid any attention to Elijah was his disposal count, and the spotlight and inuendo starts from that. It blew out to become a mega drama. Some on this site, podcasts, and media speculated it was obvious substances were abused. Goes to show, the issue of mental health, and decline is an area society, and the professionals in this field still dont have a grasp on this fluid situation. Who knows? No one knows? Whose guilty? Of what? Not giving a guy a chance to find the footy and redeem himself?

I have spoken about this very sad situation with non footy people, and like me not only do they find the situation sad, we all agree male mental health needs more focus and understanding, and the public have politized the problem, rather than showing empathy and a focus on helping. Fk ther headlines. They dont help, Elijah, footballers, males, or the fiocus on mental health.

If we want to blame the someone, it would have to be the experts, but even they struggle to successfully diagnose. Then, Carlton are innocent. Voss is innocent. Players are innocent. The cpde is innocent. And Mental Health needs more focus than looking for scapegoats.

Really saddened by this. I heard from someone yesterday, someone very very close to elijah said, he was saddened by the whole thing and Elijah may have played his last game of AFL footy. Let that sink in. This is not about Carlton, its about Elijah and how he feel so quickly during a game, with so much support around him.

Think of the victims of mental issues. Think of those without any support around them, not speaking a word of their problem to anyone, not able to ask for help, and left to deal with their personal hell by their own means.. Footy cubs are great pillars of support, and I would go as far as suggesting the football club environment has saved Elijah from something worse, rather than questioning the duty of care the whole Footy club offerred for Elijah.

The club didn't abandon Elijah on a scrap heap. The club looked for a new home for him. There were no takers. WE gave him something to live for, and he seemed to have cleaned up his act and found a new sense of purpose. He went to Vossy after the game, and felt he had let down Vossy, not the other way around.

A bit of a long response. But theres a weight I have lifted Mickstar. Its a hard one for me, and harder for Elijah. Its always good to have a sounding board, isnt it. Wish that was the case for everyone.

Get well Elijah.

I think this is a quality, reasoned response. We need to understand that everyone doesn't necessarily conform to the media's idea of "normal" behaviour.
As someone who has seen Elijah numerous times away from the football club, he is a very fidgety person. His mannerisms can appear unusual or erratic. But that is who he is. We're all different and his behaviours are what make him the person he is.

So I feel very uncomfortable seeing people using video of him with a pure objective of kicking the club. He may well have been wired or under the influence of alcohol but distinguishing his behaviour from his standard behaviour may not be as easy as some seem to suggest.
As I mentioned earlier, I suspect his career is over but hopefully people can pursue it without embarrassing and degrading the bloke in the process.

Graham's Wright's conference sums it all up: What a mess of a Club we are!!

He admits knowing that the club knew something was wrong with Elijah during the Game Yet no action was taken by anyone!!

You can all play the Mental Episode Card because we live in such a Woke Society & Culture that whenever someone stuff up, We Scream Mental health!! Give me a Break People!! ( Why hasn't the AFL or the Club Blood Test him after the Game??? ). Some will say they certainly would have, Yet they are not allowed to release the results. How ironic that neither the AFL nor the Club has come out publicly and say " Elijah was Tested and we can confirm 100% that he had nothing in his body- no Alcohol and no Drugs ".

The Doctors knew YET they did nothing
The Coach Knew Yet he kept him on the Field
The Players Knew so they chose not kick the ball to him
The Opposition Players Knew so they left him on his own for most of the Game

I have said it 1000 times before the Season began that it will be only a matter of time before Pitto breaks down!

It only took him 6 Weeks. They say he will miss one Game but I can assure you he will be out for a month!

So our Gun Recruit Reidy will come in. Welcome to the Big Jungle... Facing up against his old Mob that didn't rate him at all. He will get Slaughtered.

Bring back Hewett and play him in the Ruck... we might have a chance of winning a clearance!

Carlton v Collingwood
Clearances Carlton 29 Collingwood 31
And they had a 6-6-6 infringement and a BS free on Walsh.

We actually have a decent record aganst Freo and we don't really mind playing over there, so, whilst I'm not *optimistic*, I'm also not convinced we're lambs to the slaughter.

Before seeing just what the injury list looks like I'd go with:

Dean - Weitering - Newman
Florent - Haynes - Cowan
Hollands - Cripps - Carroll
Ainsworth - McGovern - Smith
Byrne - Kemp - F. Young

Reidy - Walsh - Cerra

Williams - Hayward - L. Young - Evans - Saad

Since the AFL deemed he wasn’t struck surely he wouldn’t have to go into AFL mandatory concussion protocols.

AFL: it was the ball hitting him in the head that concussed him, not the spoil by the opposition player that caused impact to the head by an unspecified part of the opponents body milliseconds later.

I don't think I stated anything controversial Doc.
Obvious themes to consider, and imo foolish to discard.
Food for thought in a matter no one knows what happened.

I think you should ask his Manager what he thinks. Its sad.

I was going to post in the match thread, I find it fascinating you and dodo were the only two who posters definitely didn't want Carlton FC to continue with Elijah. IIRC he had burned his bridges/ trust, and let down himself and the club, or he is overrated.

Back to football, I agreed with you a few match day threads (v Dees), Elijah hadn't shown anywhere near his preseason form, or his potential thus far since his resigning. Maybe he was gifted games?

Anyway, he's not playing this week.

I watched yesterday's WA Derby with interest.

Freo are a good team, but they didn't scare me or diminish my belief Carlton could improve to beat them even without Harry Pitto and Elijah.

I think we will miss Pitto most.

If Young plays forward-ruck and hits packs like he did in the last quarter vs Pies, something I have never seen him do before, and our smalls take advantage of the ground ball, and kick straight, we could beat these guys at Optus Stadium.

Might be good for the team to travel together and get out of the Melbourne Bubble this week.

I'm sure they are hurting, and know they are so close to a W, that belief is still there.

I find this week's game as fascinating as the Pies game we should have won, despite being one man down for the game, and 2 KPFs short in the last. We came back without the presence of Harry and Gov.

The Players Knew so they chose not kick the ball to him
The Opposition Players Knew so they left him on his own for most of the Game

mate, there’s been something “wrong” with Elijah every game this and last year, but he’s coped and played through it, just like Cripps plays with a bung hand and a bung back, and Acres plays with bung shoulders, etc. Every player pushes through and plays with discomfort, Elijah was no different. Go back and watch his matches before, he’s always acted a little “weird” during matches, that’s just how he is. If he’d done all those strange things and had 15 possessions we wouldn’t be having this conversation, it would have been a “normal” game for him and us.

Probably the coach and club erred on supporting him too much and his ability to “push through”, like they do with Cripps and Pittonet and many others every week. Stop being so hysterical.

And they had a 6-6-6 infringement and a BS free on Walsh.

and Pitto with a broken hand in the last.

Interesting thing is we fought back without Pitto rucking with his dominant hand, and fatigued....and missing Harry and Gov (and elijah)

Says a lot about the lads.

Given Reidy was a late out from the VFL team, and Harry may have concussion, we could be relying on Young and HoK to play key forward and ruck.
