Cincotta has added very little since being rushed back.
Much prefer a kid over him at this stage
My first response is Why?
Easy to say kid, but which kid? So I'll ask who?
It can't be O'Keefe, Lemmey...they are big boys. Ben Campo, suspended.
Its either Wilson or Charleson to play in the backline.
Two players I would like to see more of this year. Both come out of contract come year's end.
But back to Cincotta comment. There's a reason Cincotta has been rushed back to the team, and if you are looking at stats to judge Cincotta, I think that's unfair. You should look at the role he's been asked to play, and his success given no preseason.
I dare say, his strength, discipline, skills and speed have been missed this year, along with Cottrell.
Cincotta has done well since he's come back. Lets see what he's added since his comeback.
Cincotta hasn't done a preseason but was rushed back to shut down Merrett. He did that and we won
Name one kid who could do that?
Next game, he locked down on Premiership player, Liam Baker, who was getting his 35-40 possessions at HB, and nullified him.
We won that game too.
There was talk, his body was too sore for the North game, but it was a game we had to win. He should have tagged McKercher, but instead Vossy and Co put him on Daniel.
McKercher didn't have a strong opponent (actually got a 20yo kid, Carroll), and McKercher tore us a new one.
Next game he tagged Butters in the middle but starting from the HFF. By the time Cincotta got to Butters in the middle (and there was 54 centre square bounces), Butters had already done the damage. Can't blame Cincotta for that.
Cincotta wasn't on the injured list, but his body needed a rest since the North game, and he was rested next game against Pies. He was ommitted, but in actual fact he was rested and didnt play any footy.
He was recalled back last weekend vs Lions and played on Callum Au Chee for parts of the game, and did well.
Cincotta is a player I hope we keep next year. I don't care if he's depth, because if he is, we have come a long way over the Trade season.
I'm not precious about keeping Cincotta in the team, because its obvious we are not playing to win anymore, but I don't think he's been the problem this year. He's a player we need, if winning is important, which its not.
Like I said, I'd like to see more of Wilson and Charleson, given they have been playing well in the VFL, and contract is up for renewal, and we have to let kids go because we have too many of them and not enough experienced players.
Otherwise, I'm against throwing kids into a team with plenty of 8 young kids, too much inexperience, and players not playing team footy. That is not a place I would want any kids thrown in to sink or swim. We are here to develop, not traumatise. We've thrown jkids into deep end since 2015 and look what good that's done for us. Of the 48 players SOS recruited, only 11 left, and he used a lot of 1st and 2nd round picks after Trading most players for picks.
Gifting games has been the problem with Carlton since we were allowed to take part in the Draft again in 2004, and its proven by the likes of Cats, Swans, Lions, its not the way to develop kids.
Kids should get their bodies right before thrown into the deep end. Getting kids to 50 games, does not imply throwing them into the deep end from 18yo-21yo, as if 50 games is a guarantee to become AFL level player. They have to come in with the body right and potential to compete at the level, high. Any earlier and they fall off the cliff because they were never ready to show their potential, let alone survive injury.
