I wonder what this internal whistleblower complaint that’s led to an investigation is all about?

Coincidence or has it impacted the club that badly and there’s something we don’t know, yet?

The writing was on the wall when Teague was hired. Worst coach in the history of the club. Embarrassing how long he was allowed to stay around the club and take a salary. Anyone who had anything to do with his hiring ought to have fallen on their sword and walk far away from the club. Instead, they're made board members. That's how Carlton works.

I'm as guilty as anyone of thinking that we just needed to 'click' at some point and the season might not have been a write-off. We've done it before, after all. Unfortunately, instead of clicking we broke.

With the season shot, I kinda want see what we have. I want to see youngsters get a game. I want to see senior players given opportunities in different positions. I don't neccessarily expect wins, but I'd like to see something different. I also know it almost certainly will not happen... but following the Blues is all about blind faith, isn't it?

From what I’ve heard the manager in question expressed the opinion early in the season that we should try to win our games.

The players completely lost their shit and threatened to strike.

The AFL is involved because the club can’t work it out themselves.

Cripps said the opposition players were far nicer to him after games when we lose and Acres said he’d have to give up his favourite pastime of kicking it out on the full if they were expected to win. Harry didn’t have an opinion and said he’d ask his girlfriend when he gets one whilst Jacob wondered if he’d be forced to smile more if we won games. TDK said he wouldn’t put his head over the ball for less than 1.5 million and McGovern thought it was all a big laugh because it’s really hard winning games when you’re on a stretcher with a broken fingernail.

But it wasn’t unanimous.

Charlie didn’t take a strong position either way because he didn’t understand the difference between winning and losing and the Hollands boys thought winning might be a good strategy. Ollie said putting in 100% effort was all he knew and Elijah thought winning a premiership would allow him to finally get away from football and go out on a high.

The board remain divided on the issue.

I assume this has now effectively become a ‘2026’ thread?

For mine…

Still think the elephant in the room this year is not Voss, or Lloyd, nor the salary cap.

When Caroline Wilson gave the AFL public a sniff the Saints have offered $1.7M for TDK in March, I thought this is big enough to derail the bond and commitment the players have made for success together at Carlton.

I said it again before the midseason draft, and now he is really stinking things up at carlton.

I'm glad the media have highlighted his weak as piss, half hearted commitment to the contest, whilst taking his $800K.

He was soundly beaten by bigger better rucks all season, but TDK fans kept telling me that his stats are amazing. We lost the 4 points because his opponent got the better of him.

Its time to drop him for bad form. Its time to see what card SOS plays given we have devalued TDK. Hopefully we also renew our offer for him. He's not worth $1M, and neither are his signals to the Carlton faithful.

If all the sudden he starts trying because he's been found out, that's even worse.

Love the Pies cheersquad singing to him whilst stationed forward "Oh when the Saints....Oh when the Saints....."

haha. So true.

There will be changes galore. Its important to know what's going on with players heads, and spirit, and their connection with club and supporters.

There's a function on in half an hour at the club. Sponsors have been invited to the club rooms for the whole arvo, to watch the squad train, and see for themselves the commitment and unity of the team/ coach....this was planned event long time ago. Just received a call and its about to start. Will have more on this later.

I'm going out for lunch today with an ex carlton player to chew the phat and stuff up our Dry July. See what he knows. Then next week, there's a dinner on with a couple of Carlton players, my nephew is attending, but I can't attend. So, I want to get a feel for what players are feeling with next year in mind.

Of the stars, apart from TDK taking the SOS lure, to stuiff up Carlton's 2025 campaign, I think the only stars who will be shopped around will be Walsh with only one year left on his contract, and Cats have a war chest (how, I do not know...but have a fair idea) and show pony Curnow, who would love the extra dollars and attention he would receive from Swans.

There may not be any starts apart from TDK leave. Wew can't push them out, but Swans can offer a deal that Curnow cant refuse, just like TDK did. Swans have the luxury of Merketing dollars to promote game.

Personally, I think the list failed the game plan. Looked great with few injuries, since 2022, but havent been able to keep players on the pitch.

Losing our best runners for the season hurt us really bad: Cottrell, Elijah, Jagga, Cincotta, Walsh, which puts too much pressure on Ollie's energy and stamina ,and on the burst speed saad and williams can provide (when Williams is fit).

If coach is going to be sacked come year's end, or before Round 24, to hasten the choice, that will not be a surprise anyone.
I'm sure we are canvassing coaches as we speak. Longmire is a long shot.

We need a coach to make his mark on the list with Wright's insight from this year, make good decisions on targets.

We know assistants and some development coaches will be gone and replaced.

We need to top up the team with experienced players to fill spots left by Kennedy, Owies, Marchbank, Martin and Cuningham.
Haynes was earmarked as talented depth who could step in when needed, which he did, coz Gov has been awful this year, but we are still 4 short depth players from last year.

I'm hoping we retain out of contract older inexpensive players like Newman, McGovern, Cincotta, Haynes, as depth players to cover for last year's losses, which means we need to replace Newman, McGovern, Cincotta, Haynes with better experienced players. They will come from Picks and FA's. So who do we delist to make way for 4 new players, Dean FS, and maybe Ison as an NGA?

Finally for List manager and coach to consider deeply. We need players who have mongrel, and are unsociable on the field. I'm sick of players "playing" football, like its a game, when we need players who go to war every week. Players who hate to lose.

The list manager and Coach has to be focussed on delivering a flag in the next 2-3 years with our spine of stars. I don't think we will lose players as some think at the end of the year, But we will need to discard a few kids. Don'ty let contracts fool you like the LOB decision did. I have my thoughts on which contractyed players we will release this year, who may still have a year to run on their contract.

I'd like to keep Kemp as depth too. He's of the right age profile we need to build up.

I wonder where this "pick nice boys" strategy really came from? Is it the board wanting nice players who are good for marketing and selling memberships? Or some other strategy?

I agree it's been a total failure, but it seem's to have been there since the time of Angwin and Norman.

Was it implemented by the AFL as part of their plan to keep Carlton neutered?

Thanks for both these posts - look forward to hearing from you after the session this afternoon.
I am agnostic about moving a big name player or two beyond TDK.
I get that some of our players have terrible skills. But honestly, I think most of our players are looking much worse than they are either because they (or their teammates up the field) are not doing what’s asked of them in terms of leading, fake leading, kicking to moving players, kicking to space etc which allows much more margin for error…. Like Collingwood where the receiver tends to make the kick look better. And I can’t believe it is a coincidence that so many of our players have terrible skills. And I have seen many who I know have great skills play as if those skills have abandoned them.
So, to me, it is either the game plan or the players’ ability to stick to the game plan.

Things can turn around quickly with the right moves. Many had writtten the Tigers off by 2016 and Hardwick as almost out the door. Only a few rounds earlier last season, the Lions were past it, had missed their window and would have to start again. Not only did they win the flag, but they are forecast to remain in contention for some time, despite losing their no.1 key forward! And the Cats by 2021 were considering their whole game plan - they rethought the whole approach and, as one of the oldest teams in history, won the flag in 2022. What about the Crows last season? Arguably worse and more disappointing than us now. What about the Pies at the beginning of 2022 - most experts had them with one of the worst lists and a long road back. And, again last season, they dropped off the face of the earth. Only to rebound with an updated game plan, and whooshka! (I don’t for a second think that Dan Houston would have solved our problems - more likely, his kicking would have suddenly become rubbish like everyone else…).

But the main point is, things can turn around very very quickly if the right moves are made. And while quality players are crucial, no 1 or 2 players are bigger than the club (Hawks won the flag after Buddy left, Cats won after Ablett left etc…).
I honestly don’t know whether is a Voss problem, a game plan problem, an assistant coach problem, a team culture problem, a Board problem or, most likely some combination. FWIW, I THINK Nathan Buckley probably got closest to it when he spoke about our players’ sense of entitlement… which goes back 20 years and does maintain an explainable line tracking for all of those years. And I think a large part of that is because of our off-field leaders who put them on a pedestal even before they arrive (as do we as fans).
In any event, What we are doing now is clearly not working and hopefully we get the right people in the room to work it out.
