Pros:

Much needed win against quality opposition.
Pressure.
Ball movement.
Carlton roar.
Lots of contributors. But Walsh, Elijah, Haynes and Harry the standouts. Hewett, Cripps, McGovern, Cerra and TDK not far behind.
Thought SOJ's transition kicking out of defence was superb.
Nice to see Fogarty have an impact.
Like the way Cripps has been tackling to hurt in recent weeks.

Cons:

Pity we could never quite break them on the scoreboard.
Opposition goals late in quarters.
Opposition accuracy.
Quiet games from Cottrell and Motlop.
Dangerfield flopping about theatrically to try and win frees.

That’s the level of intensity that Adam Cerra needs to bring every week - you’ve set the bar now son never go below that.

I'm gonna defend Keogh here Cazz, something I never thought I'd do....

I didn't read his post as pessimistic at all, particularly by his standards - it's not blowing smoke up their arses, but it's a fair post, even complementary of some players

Want to get one thing out of the way first...the umpiring was great.

Sorry, you read that right. They umpired minimally and didn't get sucked in by divers looking for head highs or pushes in the back (looking at you mostly, Geelong) and were consistent.

There, I've said it. I feel dirty. Don't argue. I'm not coming back to this.

And onwards...

Ollie Ollie Ollie. Love your work. Your efforts are not represented fairly in the stats (haven't even looked at them). Geelong kicked the ball out on the full twice, I believe, due to the perceived pressure that you were constantly applying. Superb effort all day. Deserved to sneak forward for a goal at some point. One of your best.

Haynes arrived today, been building to this after a disastrous debut. Close to BOG, although plenty of contenders.

Gov also close to BOG - showed skill, heart and brains. We don't usually get all three.

TDK wasn't BOG for mine but that might be because I'm now taking his brilliance for granted.

Same for you, Crippa. Okay, def not BOG this time but what a last quarter - a captain's quarter, even if you fell into old habits occasionally of trying to do too much.

Weiters solid as ever. Potential BOG almost every time he plays.

Walsh, Cerra, Hewitt, Elijah, anyone else? Racking up possies often out of sight amongst a sea of navy blue and white arms and legs...all great. Especially impressed that Walshie managed to precision deliver a pass into the forward line for a goal - not his forte, a sign of a good day out.

JSOS - has the genes, the legs, the pigheaded not-on-my-watch attitude befitting a '95 remembrance (did his grumpy dad turn up today? I missed that bit)... Has he really broken his hand? He really needs another type of break.

Kudos to Williams if he played on with whatever his injury was to kick a great, if somewhat accidental goal, before being subbed out.

The newbies are slotting in nicely, and Durds continues to show why we've waited patiently for him to get past his injury run.

Charlie is great even when he's quiet, and he can afford to be quiet when Harry decides to take the bull (or cat) by the horns.

Mots and Cotts had blots but they'll be back. Mots - you're not Cripps, don't try to break tackles. Someone please tell him this isn't the VFL.

Fog's best game for the year.

Our best game since the last time we played them. What I loved was our response when they threatened to wrench the game from us, as they've done to others like Adelaide and are very good at - there's a lot of belief in this Cats side, and we showed that we're capable of NOT panicking and rising to the occasion.

Gotta be happy with this. Regardless of any mitigating circumstances or flaws we still need to iron out, enjoy it. A great win.

The season is now taking shape
What tends to happen is there are a couple of teams who are ordinary
That looks like West Coast
North and Richmond are better but should be beaten by most teams who are switched on
You can safely rule out Melbourne StKilda Essendon* out of winning it
What generally happens is a couple of teams fall out of the eight and are replaced
Sydney will need to win more often
Port are just average
The improvers are Gold Coast Collingwood and Adelaide
When you think about yesterday’s win you have to think where we sit compared to the rest of the comp
Also what’s our draw
We play West Coast again in June
Any team that plays West Coast twice has a one game advantage because they are that bad

It’s more likely now to win from the bottom half of the eight because the competition is so even
Like Brisbane did last year
As I said previously the most impressive thing has been the inability to for teams to score against us
Thus we have the 4 th best percentage
And it’s imperative to be hard to score against us to win the flag

The concern for me is our lack of depth
We have to have good run with injuries to be any chance
Darcy Moore goes out Pies win
If Weitering is out we are in serious trouble
I’m simply not an emotional supporter
I follow us but look at the big picture
Winning in Adelaide against a potential final eight candidate will help our cause

I like your posts Keogh.

Some supporters want to continue to live in LaLaLand and keep getting excited over individual wins and don't want to look beneath the surface or at the bigger picture.

All we've done now is give ourselves a shot - the fact is the start of the season was a trainwreck and now we have to do things the hard way (again). Now we have to go and beat Adelaide over there, where they historically have pulled our pants down (haven't beaten the Crows over there since 2004!!!), and if we don't, then we're 3-5 and behind the 8 ball some more. That's not being pessimistic, that's the reality of where we are. Getting excited over individual wins is so 2016-2019 - I and I'm sure many others want more. 5 game block will tell us where we are. So far, 1 from 1, great, keep it up, but remember where we are.

I disagree about your thoughts on Haynes sitting back for easy marks though - he was immense and involved everywhere yesterday, and set the standard right from the first bounce.

There is living in la la land, and just enjoying a win when it comes.

I am not delusional to think we are back. Heard it all before.

We are back when we are firmly in the 8 at the end of the year.

Last year in the 1st half we got sucked in and then barely made finals. Not going to do that again.

But cmon yesterday was a very good win. And they have done their best in the last 3 weeks.

So lets enjoy that, and then switch that off and start again game by game.

I'm happy to get the win and see the team starting to become more cohesive, but I'm cautious about getting too excited.

We've got an interesting run ahead - Adl away, StK, Syd away and GWS with a couple of 6 days breaks thrown in. Adl and StK are bogey sides and we tend to struggle at the SCG. All those games are very winnable or very loseable.

My mistake...we did actually beat them there in 2010 - still a long time!

Yes, the Fev goal from the pocket - remember Nick Stevens yelling at Fev to kick the ball right to left from the pocket - it went left to right

Yeah bender you are probably right. But don't tell Keogh I said that or I'll deny it.

I had arrived home from a cracking game and I was so proud of the commitment from so many, who had been copping it. I didn't want to read anything that wasn't glowing......................silly me, I forgot this was TC.

TC is the Hop on Hop off AFL bus, so I should know by now how fickle supporters can be over 7 days.

Good on you for supporting Keogh and setting me straight  Just like the Blues in 2025 - support your team-mates.

Regards Cazzesman

Haynes played the majority of the game on Close and Dempsey
He should be dominating in the air
He had a fantastic game
His McGovern Weitering and SOJ s game will be easier if Thilthorpe and Fogarty don’t play

Motlop trying to get around someone from the centre bounce instead of taking the first option and getting nabbed a classic example.
But his time will come.
