The thought of gifting games sickens me.
Throwing Moir in last week when he had no form in the praccy games nor the VFL was stupid.
Yeah, it pleased some of the supporters who thought by throwing in a quality undeveloped kid would help us win, but it didnt. Far from it. 1k, 1HB, 80% GT.
Then those same supporters wonder why they are only given one game. Well, the answer is simple, we are playing to win games in the AFL, not carry passengers.
How many times have we seen posts demanding Voss play Wilson? Lemmey? even 18yo O'Farrell for Young, Gov or Haynes? Plenty.
Carroll and White are kids. They are kids who showed good form in praccy games and VFL. They warranted selection.
Prior to those 2 kids Lord and Lucas Camporeale got a call up because they showed they belonged and coped well playing against senior bodies. ie a bit further developed than other kids.
Kids like Lemmey, Moir, O'Keefe, Charleson, Wilson haven't shown anything convincing to be gifted a game imo.
Kids need to be knocking on the door before they are picked to play AFL.
I'll be surprised if Wilson and Lemmey are on our list in 2026 TBH. We have more kids queuing to come to Carlton in 2026: Gresham, Ison, Dean, Allan, Clark. Not all of them will get to us if we dont discard some kids and NGA's. That's our reality.
Our list problem is we have too many kids and not enough depth players to cover for injury. Doesn't give us any reason why we should be playing kids when we haven't got our game right to win games consistently, and protect the kids in a system they can fit into. We are still tweaking our system. Now is not the time for players to be gifted games who are not playing consistently well in the VFL.
As does the thought of senior players being gifted games because the ressies are poor
I'd rather give Lemmey (as just an example) one game at AFL level than accept
countless games of mediocrity and condituional efforts by player X Y Z in the seniors
