ahhh mate... that midfield group might be tough but it's the slowest group of mids in the comp. i'm not even sure it's vfl quality (for speed). pies will torch us at every 50/50 contest all night long.
this is the game where cerra has to play out of his skin from the opening bounce. he's showed glimpses of AA form, and then does a hammy and takes forever to warm back up.
Don't look at the selection as 3 mids. It never is. Its a midfield group. Cerra Walsh and Elijah are part of it. I don't want Fogarty in there for plenty of reasons.
We need to win stoppages. Cerra played in there against GWS, and if he'll play in there (if Boyd comes back in).
Its the starting group. We have to assert our authority and power. This group has been our most successful regardless of the speed inference.
No good having speed if you don't win the ball. Our biggest problem has been allowing the opposition to have an extra mid.
We got beaten by Swans for speed on the outside and some people get stuck on that game.Cerra gets sucked into the ball and doesn't wait on the outside
our stoppage defense is appalling for two reasons.
we can't catch them the other way, and we have mental breakdowns and don't man up or play defenisively bcos we're only worried about getting the ball and running the other way.
we need walsh or cerra in the middle, full stop. none of that matters if we don't return to our team defense and manic pressure on the ball from all lines.
not sure why you love big, strong, plodders like pittonet and kennedy ... but the modern game doesn't have much place for them, little buddy.
OK
I explained once, twice, three times ... I'll let you try and figure it out, if you want to, then you may see why.
I know you think you're right and i have no idea, hence you don't want to try and comprehend the points made and reasons for them. Not more I can do to help you with that.
You never seem to answer and address the questions thrown your way to allow us to gain some clarity on your position. You see I still don't get your last post..."need Walsh and Cerra in the middle...FULL STOP". Yeah. Where in the middle? What role? same as before? When before? When rules weren't changed or when Cerra was in form?
Look at your comment I highlighted, then follow your questioning in your next post. Its all absolutes young bull.
You didn't follow up to find proof of ruck as sub idea. So you didn't learn a thing from that,, but I gave you a hint, you are wrong AGAIN. It wasn't just a flippant idea of mine. It happened when you said it would NEVER happen.
Keep throwing barbs, and in doing so, there's no room it seems for any discussion.
Ive told you who and why I THINK.... For arguments sake, and intelligent discussion, you tell us who and why you think we can't beat at the coal face, (nam,e names and positions) because that's where it will be won or loss, like last time we played them. To give you one simple example of the point I'm making.....they beat us on the outside in the very last minute...where were we positioned. How many did they have stationed at the stoppage...have a look at your posts from that game.
You really don't think you're exaggerating do you?
Crusader pointed you were wrong AGAIN in a previous post. Your response was to attack the man, not your outlandish position. Come on mate. We are trying to help. I agreed with Cru. It was there in black n white in your post just before your rebuttle. You can't see because you refuse to see your fallacies and exaggerated comments; absolutes. They are not facts but you present your bias opinions as facts. Give examples. Discuss footy. Discuss players. Capiche. Not being nasry, but its a dead end street if you don't try
Every week there's a different 23 players we face. Every week we present a different 23. Things are NEVER the same. You can bank on that.
We've spent the last 2 weeks discussing Walsh and how the change of HTB rules affected his game AND how he is an easy target; his back has an X marked on it. I thought you agreed on the need to play him more on the outside, because he can't help see ball get ball and put himself in danger as a marked man who has had back concerns and will have for the rest of his career.
Tell me who is going to torch us in the middle? Why? What can we do to stop it? What can they do to stop us if we win the ball?
We are better than the Pies. I wish we faced them in last years GF even with our SLOW midfield. We've beaten them a few times in the last 3 years including their premiership year. Why is this so?
i think i just find it equally as unbearable with how right you always think you are, and then deliver a 55,000 words thesis explaining why you're right. bludgeoning me to death with words, doesn't make you right, old cock.
we've lost countless games for being too slow. kennedy hasn't played meaningful minutes in the centre since we were without walsh back in the first few rounds. there's a reason why him, cripps, hewett and pittonet cannot be in the middle. whenever they have, they get burned. it's first use and kick it long, or bust. they're not even running or spreading or linking handball chains from the square if they do win it, bcos each to a man will get caught.
i told you earlier. cerra has to play in the middle and he has to find form, it's that simple. he's the bridge between cripps and walsh. goes inside and also plays outside. if cripps isn't getting the ball first, cerra used to get it - before he was injured, he has to find that form again. hewett off the bench to spell cerra and cripps when they're on a break.
we miss tdk, bcos he papered over so many cracks, getting his hands to the ball first and just bullocking forward. his ruck art was coming along too.
walsh isn't being destroyed by the new HTB rules, per say ... we are not fast enough to keep momentum on the ball and keep tapping it and toe-poking it forward at all costs. the successful teams since the rule change, play the ball forward at all costs and surge into space.
the rule change as a whole, hasn't aided us, bcos our 1-wood of using big bodies and strength to stand up in the tackle and find the outlet has been taken from us, and in its place, the manic surge forward play has taken over. ie fast teams have benefitted the most.
it's criminal really, that the afl could make such a huge rule change mid season. it's criminal that voss has filled his list with big bodies (from acres to our engine room etc ) and we can't adapt.
imo this game on saturday is our season. we either prove our contested, high d-pressure, high turnover game can exist within the new rules. or i fear it's game over for 2024. we haven't looked good in any game since the htb rule change, and d-day is here.
