Voss was just on AFL 360. A man who means business and one who knows what final's business is. My confidence has been turning into nervousness, listening to Vossy speak my confidence is back! Thriving upon the wait and expectation. Let's lap up the atmosphere!

Yeah , Finals was Vossies caper . Played in a lot of finals and probably won three quarters of them . Was a mixture of aggression , strength , and sheer brutality . I"m just wondering who will be Voss's designated " Attack Dog " ? nothing surer than Voss will have a couple of Swans targets he will be trying to unrattle . My guess is Heaney and Warner will be in for a bit of extra attention .

Acres will be one of them. Maybe Newman the other.

And Pitto to take the Shane Mumford approach is my guess .

That is Pittos No 1 job.

A good read from Jake Niall, with a lot of content from Weiters and Cook…

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the ... 5e2ry.html

Quote:
…What is evident from talking to Weitering, Cook and others within the club not authorised to speak publicly and who talked off the record, is that the club hierarchy’s public affirmation that Voss was safe was a relief, that some players and staff had experienced one sacking or review too many.

“They’d been through it before,” said Cook of the players and staff who’d endured coaching/CEO turnover. “They didn’t want to go through it again.”

Weitering said: “I think if you’re going to do that [sack the coach] ... you’re probably saying to the club, to the supporters, to the players that you’re taking one step forward and two steps back, or three steps back even, and that’s not great if you want success.”

Cook said he and Sayers had underestimated the impact on the players of their public statements supporting Voss staying in his role. Sayers, subsequently engulfed in separate controversy due to his past stewardship of PwC, has said little since that time.

“When that was said to us, to Luke and I, to the board, I think we were a little surprised,” Cook said.

“We probably didn’t fully comprehend how important it was how the players saw the commentary from Luke and I in particular, in the media.

“We thought they were a bit more protected than that. There was obviously some susceptibility there, some sensitivity, okay, and we didn’t pick up on [it].”

Weitering said of the external pressure’s influence: “The less noise there is the better ... I mean, this is a noisy club.”

Weitering credits Cook, Sayers and football boss Brad Lloyd for standing firm in the face of the outside heat. “And then Vossy is the obvious one... a leader of men, very good balance between relationships and understanding you’ve got to get the job done.”…

Very happy member if the two year extension is true!
Successful clubs have serious coaches who build teams over the long term. Too long the club has looked for a messiah to be the quick fix.
I reckon Voss is the real deal, and deserves the reward.

Sensible for all parties and avoids a port style media circus next year.

Great decision and well deserved. 2 years is very reasonable.

Plus we have the players to win Finals, and can only keep improving the list with only one retirement this year, and not many others.

Age profile is about right too.

And, we may have a bit of cap space available when Plowman's back ended contract ends this year, Gov's contract ends, Ed's retirement, and possible the trades of Dow and Fisher. But then again Harry's new contract starts.

Then end of next year Martins lucrative front ended contract expires, and the new clubs salary cap goes up by 900K.

I suspect there has been a long term benchmark for an extension being win a final.
Looked unlikely a few weeks ago…

Mad respect for Voss and his game plan and our contested football brand.
I still think we need more speed, skill and IQ to polish this team off though.
But we have now won a final so he has done better than I have hoped for.
Go Blues!

I think I have posted similar to this before, but here goes....

After the Round 10 drubbing from Collingwood, the masses were calling for Voss's Head.

Soon after Sayers comes out and "backs" the coach saying "He is contracted as our Coach until the end of next year" or similar. At the same time, I distinctly remember posting something like "When your President comes out to back you, history suggests you are goneski" or similar. A few more losses come our way until we finally broke the drought against the Suns and then another 8 wins on the run and THEN an elimination final win last week.

A transformation in form, effort, playing culture, team first mentality, spirit, never say die attitude and probably the most important of all belief, like this has never been seen ever from any other AFL team - at least that I recall.

Now we turn to Melbourne in a semi-final, and again after sitting 15th on the ladder just about two months ago, no one in their right mind could have even dreamt it. BUT here we are.

Wow, just flowering WOW!

It’s extraordinary isn’t it?

If the cauliflower had pulled his finger out a couple of weeks earlier we’d be booked in a prelim already!!!

Ratts overcame the Fev debacle & had us a kick away from a prelim.

12 months later he got the arse.
