But in the second pre-season under Voss, Cook sees improvement within the squad.
“We’ve taken the next step, unfortunately we have a few injuries as you know and that always is the case when you increase the intensity and the volume which we have done compared to last year,” he told media on Thursday morning.
“Vossy and the team have not been reluctant about that, they’ve set some pretty high standards for the players and they’re loving it: that’s the feedback I’m getting.”
The injuries Cook referenced are those belonging to Sam Walsh and Zac Williams in particular. Walsh will miss at least the first month of the season after back surgery, while Williams will need a knee reconstruction after tearing his ACL last week. Jordan Boyd and Matt Cottrell are also dealing with long-term injuries.
But as it stands, it’s little compared to the injury carnage Carlton went through last year.
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/02/09/weve-taken-the-next-step-blues-boss-makes-flag-declaration-in-five-year-plan/Last week Nick Negropontis wrote that Cottrell would be available in round 1, and today Seb Mottram writes Cottrell is a long term injury.
Who really knows? I reckon Farmer Blue may have spoken with someone who is in the know: I hope so.
Cottrell has a fractured navicular.
They’d still be waiting for it to knit, never mind making plans for a return to action.
They opened him up to ensure a good knit, but that then comes with its own set of issues.
Don’t be surprised if the best outcome means he’s placed on the LTI list before the MSD.
So Nick Negropontis is full of shit.
Who the hell is he anyway?
He's a journo. Carlton supporter.
Provides reports for SEN for about 5 years now???.
Has his own footy website, or use to.
Was the only journo not laying boots in during the Bolton & Teague years.
Knows our team well .. better than most other journos.
I have enjoyed his reports on Carlton.
He selected Cottrell in his best 23. Had heard Cottrell will be available round 1.
Fair enough but seriously that type of injury, if it isn't healed now, I would find it hard to see him playing in the seniors in R1.
Surely he would be on incremental minutes his first few games back.
He'd want to be playin the the last practice match minimum to make R1 I'd have thought.
The only thing I will say outside of that is the club would want his run given the absence of Walsh, Boyd and Williams.
