SOS is unlikely to jump on radio and say "I stuffed that pick up". He is always gonna blame coaching & development.
Spot on, and that has been his behaviour on a consistent basis.
I think SOS is partly right. Player development for the most part has been poor. The number of coaching changes we've had in recent would indicate we've been poor in that area too.
However, the old saying you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink comes into play here.
These players step into an elite sporting environment with all these resources at their fingertips. Why aren't they making the most of it? There are few doubting SPS' talents. He was rated highly in his draft year yet lacked the drive to succeed. I know Dow is still on our list and contracted and he was rated top 3 or 4 his draft year too but seemingly lacks the drive to succeed. See little urgency in his game. Seems to have not worked much on any of the weaknesses he had when he walked in the door. Why? From an outsider looking in, appears he simply isn't willing to do the work required. Stocker seemingly the same.
This comes back to SOS. Pre draft they interview these players and ask all sorts of ridiculous questions like "if 3 people fall out of an aeroplane and you could only save 1, which one and why?"
The reason for interviewing is to work out if they have the drive to succeed. Would they be willing to do the work required. We know they have the talent but do they have the burning desire.
Given he has seemingly drafted so many players early who appear to have that desire to succeed is a failure on his part as this should have been picked up and identified as part of the pre draft process. Yes, you aren't always going to get it right but you should get it right more often than you get it all wrong.
