SOS needs a rest.
He is struggling out there. Not moving freely
Be careful. I suggested that last week and there was uproar.
FWIW, I was filthy on the night (first loss I've attended this year!) but I'm glad it happened. Geelong are playing super footy. All the indicators will tell you they are the best team in it the past couple of months by a street. Personally I think they've played their hand and they're challenging the other clubs to better it. Blicavs will take the bigger bodied mids and Atkins will also play as a defensive mid leaving Guthrie and Dangerfield to provide the offensive power.
The challenge is there for Cripps, Kennedy, Hewitt, Cerra and Walsh to come up with solutions.
The other challenge is obviously Cameron. Personally I'd give them back a bit of their own. Put a stopper on him that will put him off his game. He doesn't handle physical attention and niggle so I'd get Cottrell and run with him wherever he goes and to aggravate him at every opportunity. If it's OK for Atkins to do it, I can't see a problem. Cameron will lose his cool and get reported inside 2 quarters.
He's not strong overhead so I'd risk a smaller runner on him.
Our players have shown this season that they can go to school on our deficiencies and will work hard to rectify them. Playing Freo a second time is a perfect example.
Cripps needs to shake off Blicavs. Even if he goes to Atkins at the stoppages and frees up a Kennedy or Hewitt, it will be a win. Let's see how long Geelong persist if we have a 2 on 1 at every stoppage.
Harry needs to pick up the bottom lip and man up. If he can't beat the kid for pace, beat him for workrate or strength. He wants the lace out passes all the time but he needs to be better than that.
Take the kid up the ground and lose him on the way back or dig your heels in and outmuscle him. At least get the ball to ground instead of giving up, FFS.
I didn't like Cerra the wing. His pace was an advantage we needed in the middle. I'd bring in Pitto and play TDK as a forward/ruck. Challenge the opposition defenders more.
Let's see how Geelong react to having a 203cm mobile ruck in the forward line when we play them again. As I said last week, it may force them to play Blicavs back if we can get enough supply. Be proactive.
Lastly, give the VC a kick up the arse. Weiters was poor last week and he regressed to Teague style defence. Allow your opponent a leg rope and then drop off to fill space when they win the ball. @#$%&! that. Be accountable and beat your man in every contest.
Don't lose heart. It's good to be challenged and there's no better time to get a reality check and a taste of what's to come.
So its Pitto and McGovern in for JSOS and Hayes. Put Doc on the wing.
Plowman Weitering Stocker
McGovern Young Saad
Doc Cripps Cottrell
Fish Harry Walsh
TDK Charlie Durdin
Pitto George Cerra
