Cottrell deserves a game just as much or more than Dow does.
Just wondering but how many games does Cottrell deserve and why doesn’t Dow deserve just as many?
IMO - one has had more chances to prove his worth than the other, so I can’t see a reason why we keep saying such a thing.
I don’t quite follow you. If you’re saying Cottrell has had more opportunities than Dow, then that’s just not true. Dow has played about 60 games, which is more than double the opportunities Cottrell has had.
My comment you’ve quoted was in response to a poster saying that the selectors don’t reward those who work hard for their opportunity. From all accounts, Cottrell is an outstanding trainer and clubman - and he has shown this season he can contribute at the highest level.
Just for the record - I am not a Dow basher nor do I think Cottrell is the next Judd…
I’m not worried or discussing previous years due to previous coaches, so for me, it’s clean slate this year under Bossy.
I’m not sure of the numbers but I would guess Cottrell has played 10 games and mostly as a sub. IMO - he has been given plenty of opportunities to cement a spot. Now again, IMO - he has mostly failed and when he puts in a bad one, he hurts us, ie, Collingwood game. I personally fail to see what he adds to the team as I feel talk of his gut running is overrated. But that’s me as see Walsh’s or Hewitts or Kennedy’s gut running as pivotal to our team.
On the flip side Dow had one game and was sent back to the VFL immediately.
Now anyone who knows me, has probably heard me saying one of my pet hates, is bringing in a individual, especially a kid, and ‘not’ giving them a block of games, ie. 3-4. Motlop is a very good example of a kid given 3 or 4 games, even though some would argue his last 2 weren’t up to the expected level.
Setterfield is another who deserves a run through the middle and IMO had the runs on the board to get a game this week with Cerra out. I also appreciate that he had a good block early on in the year but was played mostly wing, which I felt he did well and we could have persisted with it but the coaches saw different and I can only assume they weren’t happy with some parts of his output. No issues but I hope we give him a chance to run through the middle for a few games and see his output. Cerra’s injury gave our coaches and opportunity to try either him or Dow for a couple of weeks.
Thankfully I have faith in Voss, imagine if I didn’t.
Ps. The beauty is we have talent in spades.
