Looking at it logically I would be surprised if Teague was replaced. Like a player he is learning on the job. I have said it before, take Hardwick as an example. Yes, I do get bloody frustrated as well seeing the obvious flaws in our game plan.
Today player availability did not help him. We have 4 players who can play KPF and none were available. McKay, McGovern, Curnow, and McDonald. We have 3 rucks and 1 was available in TDK. Williams went down on or about half time and was replaced by ex-champion Murphy. etc, etc.
Is it the coach, his assistants, do we need to look further, that is what the review should be examining. It should not have had any Carlton people on it except maybe as liaison.
Nice post.
I'm on the fence determining the outcome of the Review and Teague's future. Who knows how this will pan out.
Apart from missing No. 1 Ruck and 2 KPF's, from what I saw yesterday and the last 2 years is we still have a need for speed across the ground. Saad and Williams may well give us that and I believe those 2 will feature in our next flag (regardless who the coach is, they are in), but we need speed of mind and legs. Players like Philp and Cuningham, are players who can create the much needed spread to create options further up the ground, closing speed and tackling.
If Marchbank was available, he is our bonafide intercept mark, similar size and type to Dees Lever, then Jones and Weitering can stick close to their dangerous opponents. Plowman, who has good game sense, could then be released to play a more running role as a HBF and Saad and williams the speed to get out.
Its a combination of injuries, motivation and game plan which are the obvious issues: the latter 2 are the Head Coach's responsibility.
I just want to finish off the year with players getting back on the park, in readiness for a big preseason, and some good wins, to keep Carlton attractive for the Trade season.
I have no doubt that Austin has targeted players for needs and would have started conversation and negotiation with some managers, and my gut feeling is that Lyon will replace Teague, and take control of the playing group's hearts and minds in the preseason, and do a better job than Teague with the list.
Injuries have cruelled Teague just as they did for Wayne Brittain in 2002. Someone pointed a stick at us this year.
