Media reports that Clarko has assured Jeff Kennett he isn't leaving, therefore it's 100% true??
Clarko and his manager are saying that he is committed to the Hawks, which is true until it isn't.
None of you have looked for a job while working somewhere?
What about if you are approached with a better offer?
"No sorry I can't entertain that offer that increases my pay by 50% because I told my boss last week that I was committed here"
Football is an industry, coaching is a job.
It's not a knight's code of honour to protect the realm.
The point Buzzaaaah, and this is also in reply to Sidefx's "this is the real world" comment is that looking people in the eyes and lying to them is not ok whatever world you think we live in. It trashes relationships. I'm not talking here about vague media statements from his manager. Players have stated that he has given them personal assurances that he's staying at the Hawks. Everyone's heard them - including the Carlton list. If I was on the Blues list and a bloke like that turned up as coach and started talking about building bonds and forming close relationships I'd be taking it with a grain of salt.
Don't kid yourselves that it's all about being "professional" or that things can ever be "too important" or "too serious" to care about relationships and reputation. Relationships have always mattered and always will. People don't give their all because "professional".
And for the record, I have changed jobs many times whilst working somewhere. Being a nobody it's been easy enough to keep quiet and at worst evade a direct answer. I would never ever have looked any of my work friends in the eye and lied directly about it to them. You just don't do that sort of thing.
Anyway, that's my two cents. You conduct yourselves however you like but on this point I will never change my mind.
I guess that's your own personal ethos you wish to live by.
FWIW: I have sold two businesses and helped facilitate a 3rd. In all of these businesses I have had to lie to staff due to non-disclosure. I still maintain good relationships with ex staff members from all businesses and in-fact, I'm still used as a reference for many of them. Personally, I put it down to mutual respect of all involved and the logical thinking of why things could not be public knowledge at the time of negotiations. And I can't see anything different here with Clarkson.
I think your'e putting way too much emotion into this. From my experiences, you are in a minority when it comes to your view on professional standards and employee productivity. But we are all different I guess and it might effect one or two players. But if it meant winning a premiership, you'd be kidding yourself if all players would not give 100% under Clarkson.
No problem with most of that SFX. We see things differently - makes the world a more interesting place. You may well be right about me being in a minority, but if that's the case then it's one I'm happy to be in.
You did make a new point though and one that I also disagree with. That is about emotion. For mine football is all about emotion. Take that out and it's pointless.
