First up is Paul Bower, taken with #20:

http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg= ... eid=240277

We tried to listen to feedback provided last year: 'Less of you clowns, more of the draftees'. As a result, the articles are about half a page shorter but hopefully you'll get the vibe of young Bower. Keen kid, this one.

If you'd like to get some questions in for the other draftees, please go to this thread:

That's good stuff molsey.

Could have done with being about half a page bigger though.

What does " scope to grow" mean in the article - is that his words, your words or the Club's words?

My words but he said something like he expects to grow another centimetre or two, and thought 195 would be the perfect height for CHB.

A snippet from the next interview, Jake Edwards, that I thought would be of interest:

... a recent article on the Western Jets website congratulating Edwards on being drafted said ‘A tall and athletic player with outstanding leg speed for someone of his height, Jake is a great leader around the Club and a very coachable player’. Now this word ‘coachable’ has been bandied around all pre-season amongst training watchers and footy tragics like ourselves. We asked Jake for a definition. “Personally, I think it’s about when the Coach approaches you, and says you’re doing something the wrong way, or asks you to try it differently, it’s all about how you react. I tended this year to go away and work on it, like the Coach asked. You hear of some blokes who come to AFL footy and think they’ve made it, but it’s more than that. I’m pretty sure it’s what any AFL Club wants from it’s young kids. There’s so much you have to learn about the game.â€

Now you're doing pre-releases on your work?

Wow, next you'll be doing signings at training.

Mike & Dan t-shirts go on sale next week!

I just thought it was a great comment from Jake; one worth mentioning and discussing. Plus, TCer's deserve the odd scoop don't they?

Good article Molsey, I particularly liked the references to team goals and finals. One positive thing about getting someone from a winning culture is that it might help to focus the players around the club on finals as a goal, rather than just winning more games than last year...

Not saying we are good enough to make it, but at least we should aim that way...

Thanks steve. To be honest it was a hard one to write - nothing wrong with Saddington and his enthusiasm, and desire to be seen to help out, it's just that he isn't one of the kids coming through. The new draftees always seem so excited about being able to play footy, and in awe of Kouta and Lappin and Stevo, that it rekindles the passion for watching the team. Or maybe I've just listened to Synbad too much : )

You'll see what I mean when the Club puts up the interview with Edwards next week. Edwards just wants to get out there and dominate, loves the Club already, loves Kouta - I'm sure he would impress anyone he talks to.

Did you ask why he had played forward the last two years? Is it because of the injuries or did LRT just take his spot? A bit of both?

Jake Edwards interview is now up on the site:

http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg= ... eid=241761

Had a good chat to Jake, he comes across as a bit of larrikin but takes his football very seriously. Of particular interest was his comments on being coachable, and what that meant. He added that each of the guys into the Club are very coachable in his view.

Apologies for the formatting - the articles are being put up by Sportal while the club is closed down over the break, and it appears that they don't like using paragraphs.

Thanks for the question but I wish I had an answer to it. I didn't ask Athorn. I gather in 2005 it was very much due to his return from injury, and if you had Roberts-Thomson in your defence you'd probably keep him out there. In 2004 he played all 10 games prior to his injury for the Swans, including some high stat games but as I don't follow the Swans I can't help you with whether they were any good - or more importantly whether he played well as a key defender. So i'd guess that it was 'abit of both' but have to admit I didn't ask him specifically.
