“If we care about the game then the AFL have to intervene.” Says Hutchy on Footy Classified...,is he referring to Carlton’s abyss?
Think again, he’s thinking about Gold Coast.
So here we go again, the AFL has to intervene for Sydney, Brisbane, GWS, Gold Coast, but never Carlton. This club has won 1 game!!!...why the double standards?
By the way, 20 years ago I had some sympathy for caring “about the game”. Not any longer
if we cared about the game we'd fold up GC and GWS and possibly whoever is the poorest melbourne club. this league is at its best when there's 14-15 teams and the talent pool isn't diluted to the extent it is.
5-6k a game at GC and not much more at GWS home games. the afl wouldn't miss them or their garish colours.
The AFL will continue to throw good money at bad investments.
It will take decades to get a foothold in the rugby territories of Western sydney and gold coast, and that's not guranteed.
...at the detriment of other teams.
The AFL has been warned they are losing generations of players.
My kids love Carlton, but it is interesting how they are loving basketball, soccer and even hockey. Carlton may become a hobby or side interest for them. They aren't keen on Swans or other AFL teams. I think they feel dudded having heard their old man's seething criticism of the AFL: what it has done and doing to Carlton. It's not a pretty picture.
I am a bit the same. I thought at first I loved the game of Australian football. It isn't the case anymore. I just love Carlton. So the AFL think that they can just get eyeballs on other games if your team isn't doing well. I don't do that. I have taken up watching Major League Baseball....a game I knew nothing about about 2-3 years ago.
I watch Footy Classified& On the Couch (cause Healy is sympathetic to Carlton's cause) and that's about it. I might watch 20 minutes of a random game and then lose interest. I don't buy into the hype of marquee games - I don't watch Dreamtime, QB Coll vs Melb etc..it just doesn't interest me.
I think Hutchison is a real power broker in the AFL and to see his dismissive attitude towards Carlton as a club and the lack of respect him and his comperes have towards the club is a real insight. This statement from Hutchison is so condescending not only about Murphy but also Carlton. ie just let Murphy walk, your club is meaningless.
Hutchison basically says in the following para- Your club is a product line for other clubs to recruit from, accept your fate, but in the same show he points out how important it is GC keep Lynch. The hypocrisy is breath-taking. These are his words:
"Do you need him (Murphy) versus rip the bandaid off let him go and play in a successful era before his time is over and get on with the next draft of players for the blues. Are you mature enough as a club to have a mature conversation”
