Oh FFS, now he’s not tall enough to be a coach?
How the hell do all those “never played NBL 6 ft coaches” win championships in the NBL?
Because David Beckham at 16 wasn’t in awe of Alex Ferguson because Fergie was a genius with the ball.
I had the pleasure of chatting with LOB at the season launch. He spoke glowingly of Bolts, his teaching methods but also that he’s a man you do not want to cross and that he could kill with a look.
Everything I’ve seen of Bolts tells me he is a leader.
And as for the apples to oranges dismissal of the experience argument. It’s simply proof of how far behind AFL is from other sports in the world.
Thanks Aircav.
The cancer within the club's REBUILD are the moles we have within the club. They call themselves supporters. Its their rubbish and whinging the media feast on.
I bet most of the whingers barracked for Carlton after they became a powerhouse. Jumped on the bandwagon, and now have lost patience, because they are arm chair experts.
Bolton-SOS are a new regime. Cut them some slack. Show some belief. Look for good signs..and the height thing. FFS. The med9ia are now kinder towards our club than some of these so called supporters.
I worked in the Corporate world and I found most really tall men and women at Board level in corporate world were pretenders, lacked substance, and selected because of their size of their body not the size of their brain, and they hid behind that height (and sometimes behind their good looks0, and intimidated....same with middle management. Have a look.
Bolton's size has nothing to do with anything. Such a foolish thing to say.
possibly the worst post this thread has seen.the point about bolton's height is: the guy doesn't command respect in the afl bcos he's never played. He doesn't warrant respect bcos physically he's not intimidating. it's a double whammy. talk about the corporate world & make comparisons all you want, but comparing corporate to sports is asinine.
Sports psychology is closely tied to the military and it's core values. Players follow someone they respect. The leaders need to instil belief to get the most out of their charges. this is non-negotaible for success.
It's widely talked about that a physical presence gets a message across (in combative situations, of which contact sports can be considered to be) more successfully than someone who has none. Now someone short like Clarkson, Hardwick or Matthews can overcome that, bcos they have skin in the game. They all played afl and were hard-arsed in their approach. their approach commands them their respect.
we have bolton who could be the greatest guy ever, cares about the genuine welfare of the players and wants to see them be the best they can be on and off the park. All those traits make for an excellent assistant coach, but with no afl playing experience and unable to put genuine fear into players "with his look" bcos it carries no weight.
anyway it's a pointless argument. most here as soon as you have a differing opinion shout you out of the thread.
time will tell, and history will prove bolton didn't cut it. Or that he did, in which case i'll gladly eat humble pie. problem is, history is on my side. no non afl playing coach has ever won a flag, and i'll bet the house and everything in it that bolton won't be the first.
Why? Truth hurts.
I understand tall people are hired to assume a position/posture of authority (through intimidation?) but it isn't effective. That's my point.
They get found out when they open their mouth or mind.
Its not an argument you are putting forward Braithy. You suggest things as if they are fact. Lets all wait and see, and support our club during this period of rebuilding. It hurts everyone, but you are deliberately hurting the club with guesswork. Most coaches fail. Doesnt mean he's not the right person. Your theory suggests we need to employ Pagan, Malthouse and every other failed coach who has played the game.
I know you're hurting. At this stage in our development its about short term pain.
I was at Richard Colless' place last week (ex Sydney President). Now, like a lot of people who endured the Carlton era without success, he doesn't like Carlton, Elliot and the old way of thinking (Messiah and brown paper bags), but he did say Carlton were on the right track, albeit late, and all the kids need is one win and the whole aura at Carlton and amongst the playing group will do a complete 180. It will give us all belief.
We have to take our medicine. Bolton is the doctor. Doesn't mean he will make us as we were (Premiers) but he will make us better and put us on the road to recovery, but then again, there's always a chance he is given the chance to make us feel as we once were (Premier).
I'd like that we recruit for sustained success, then worry about flags later.
You're all getting ahead of yourselves, like our captain did against the GC Suns.
