I love this segment on the Tiggers website.
http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2017-03-22/opposition-analysis-carlton
We should do the same on ours.
It shows a lot of respect for the opposition team's strengths without harping on their weaknesses.
We can expect Simmo and Docherty to be targeted by them on Thursday.
Well done to the RFC for this.

Interestingly they have listed Trent Cotchin at 185cm. Obviously he was wearing his stilettos at the time.

Thankfully for the 10 non effect possessions they get between , they will have sure hands , phewww I'm relieved....

Rumours around that Macreadie will be a late inclusion with Lamb to be the late out.

The only big change I would have made was daisy out for Cunners.
Reckon White goes to Martin all game, which he has done in the past.
That leaves Rowe, Marchbank, plow down back'
Weiters, Cas, Jack up forward.
With C Curnow Running around doing what he likes, like Kouta did.
That's decent balance there given some of the pacey smalls we have.

I agree. Rowe to Griffiths, Marchbank and Plowman to rotate off Jack and Lloyd.
Castagna and Butler to make Simmo and Doc accountable. Rioli is the worry. Castagna and Butler are committed and hard but Rioli has the class. Smedts may be the option.

Astbury will probably go to Casboult and Grimes the ducker will possibly go to Jack or Weiters. They'll try to free Rance up and I hope he goes to Charlie. Hopefully Charlie gets on his bike and gets dangerous which will drag Race away from deep defence and make him think twice about dropping off to assist others.
With their line up I think we can expose them for a lack of tall defensive options if our tall mobile forwards can fire up. Cripps resting forward will also put pressure on their smaller defenders.

Kreuzer is a big key. If he can continue his JLT form and feed our mids, we'll hopefully get some ascendancy.
People are talking up Caddy but he still only averages 17 possessions a game and struggled to maintain a spot in Geelongs team last year.
Murphy is the bonus. Supporters forget how good this guy is when he's fit and firing. Uses it well, extremely smart thinker and kicks goals. If he can hit his straps, I suspect we'll have the ascendancy in the midfield.

Glass half full? You bet ya.

Good point on Murphy.
People too busy bagging his preseason form to acknowledge how good he is when up and about.
And he's one of our few goalkicking mids.

Dislike Thomas selection, agree on Cunningham and don't think Lamb will make it but gotta love the MC being bold with SPS and the other kids.

LATE CHANGE! BLUES INCLUDE DRAFTEE

- Glenn McFarlane reports the Blues have made a change ...

CARLTON teenager Harrison Macreadie is set to make his AFL debut tonight after being told this morning he will be a late inclusion for the season-opening match against Richmond at the MCG.

It is understood Blues coach Brendon Bolton delivered the good news to the 18-year-old former Giants Academy defender.

He is set to be the fifth new face for Carlton tonight as they take on the Tigers, with Sam Petrevski-Seton, Jarrod Pickett, former Cat Billie Smedts and former Giant Caleb Marchbank also chosen in the selected side.

Macreadie, originally from Henty in New South Wales, was the club's 47th pick in last year's draft. He is athletic defender who also played in the midfield in the NEAFL last season.

Jacob Weitering, who was third in last year's Rising Star award as a defender, will likely start in attack tonight, with the Blues eager to increase their scoring capacity.

Weitering has been used as a swingman through the JLT Community Series and will continue to do so, but the belief is he will likely line-up in attack when the ball is bounced tonight.

Great - thought Macreadie showed a bit in the JLT.

Hopefully, our injection of youth will have a similar effect as it did on the Aussie cricket team!

Actually, I don't think we're as far behind the Tiges as many people think:

Mids: Murphy, Gibbs, Cripps, Curnow Vs Cotchin, Martin, Prestia, Caddy - Break even, I'd say.
Ruck: Kruezer Vs Nankervis. Unless its Ian or Brian Nankervis, I think we have a distinct advantage here.
Forwards: Ok, our forwards will struggle against their backs.
Backs: Our backs should be able to remain competitive - If we can keep Reiwoldt to 4 goals or less, and stop Martin/Cotchin bobbig up for more than 2-3 between them, that would be good.

Plus I think we have a few more wildcards...

Christmas comes for some of us twice a year

Beautiful day in Melbourne 19 degrees already looking for a top of 24 degrees - beautiful night for football

Yes ladies and gentlemen this evening I'm taking the best walk in the world :smoking: through the city through Federation Square along the beautiful Birrarung Marr and then to the G

Through the city you start seeing people congregating a few footy jumpers as you proceed through to Fed square lots of people with Richmond and Carlton scarves jumpers in the outdoor cafes and pubs and the feeling gets more tribal as you walk along BM .The first sight of the mighty G lit up in all its glory just before you get to the pedestrian bridges is a tangible acknowledgement that it is back and as you get to the pedestrian bridges you hear the slightly off key buglers or muscians playing the theme songs and the early record sellers trying to steal a march on the competition YOU KNOW its back. You are filled with that slightly anxious but excellent feeling that its the first match of the season we have several new recruits hopefully some will join the Blues pantheon of stars Nicholls Kernahan Judd and Silvagni just to name a few . In the next 3 hours you are going to go through all the emotions good and bad during the match barracking for exhorting, pleading and hoping we can conjure up an unlikely win .
Best Day in the Year enjoy and if we win wait for the roar from the old B up in the Great Southern stand

GO BLUES have loved you for more than 50 years and will forever

Well said Frank

Personally don't care about the result as long as all the kids either play well or show something which at the moment is more important for the future then say a Simon White shutting down Dustin Martin!!

Even if we get beaten, it's a smart move. The kids will get a taste and have a chance to show something. The "seniors" who are missing out will know their time is limited, and will need to earn their way back into the team. The kids will then need to improve more to get their spot back. Real, honest competition for spots we haven't had in a long while.

We are too tall with not enough run. Kerridge and Palmer should be in that side. How does Lamb get a game being a half forward who can't find the footy? SOS very lucky because on form he should start the season in the seconds. I love the kid but it's OK to play in the VFL and build confidence and form.

For mine it should be:

OUT: Lamb, SOS
IN: Kerridge Palmer

For the history buffs, in round 1 1976, a bloke named Pickett made his debut for Carlton kicking 4 in a big win over the Pies at PP. Hopefully history repeats tonight.

Excited to see SPS tonight too!

I agree we might be to tall.

But they reckon one final is worth 10 games experience (Marcus Davies excepted), so playing in front of 70,000+ is gold for SPS, Macreadie, Marchbank and Pickett, and it won't do Charlie and Weitering any harm either.

Go Blues!!!!
