http://www.blueseum.org/Laurie+KerrHis grandfather played 149 games
His father played 39 games.
If the AFL had an ounce of concern for clubs that's history dates back more than 20 years (ala not GWS etc) and an ounce of romance in their souls they would grant Carlton and (potentially other clubs) access to players that have the potential to add three generations of representation.
The history of this game is its biggest selling point, yet those at AFL House apparently don't see it that way. The majority of soccer clubs date back no more than 30-50 years in this country, yet Carlton dates back over 150 years. Even the EPL clubs can't match the 3-4-5 generation representation angle that clubs such as Carlton can offer.
Carlton 1864
Chelsea Soccer Club 1905
Manchester United 1902 (as Manchester United)
If only those in power could start thinking about the game in its heartland.
http://www.blueseum.org/Peter+KerrImagine two players in the one team - Jack Silvagni and Patrick Kerr - who have both had fathers and grandfathers represent the club. Surely that would be a first in not only football - but any major team sport around the world.
Carlton should be lobbying the AFL to ensure that there is a grandfather-grandson rule if they have played 100 games...surely the history of this linkage is just as valid as a father-son rule....
If the AFL can indirectly assist Hawthorn get $35 million in their bank account via their little Tasmanian experiment...surely they can find wriggle room to get a ruling on a grandfather-grandson rule.
