One thing that has stood out for me this past fortnight is the lack of leadership shown by Gibbs, a stark contrast from the Geelong game. As one of the more experienced mids on our list he needs to step up every game to help cover the loss of our skipper.

I think it was Agro who made a comment earlier in the week about the 94 qualifying final against Geelong at Waverley. I was there that day. Today was the same attitude.
Winning today would've given us some short term gratification but nothing more. We should've beaten them.
Losing gives all an opportunity to evaluate and reflect with a view to improving practices/structures
etc.

Gorringe, Everitt, Walker and Lamb were all shit. Coincidentally, they were all forwards.

Walker made the least effort to other aspects of play, and Lamb made the least attempts to pressure and made no intercepts, and yet we're talking about Everitt's inability to follow team rules before them.

Why don't we fix the midfield problem by dropping Walker and White for an injection of pace and skill?

Our setup in the middle was terrible, too often the Saints mids were allowed to get on the attacking side roving to a dominant ruckman. Very little defensive structure around the clearances.

Yep. I would be asking why this wasn't corrected at anytime during the game as well. We could all see it, so why didn't our coaches or players correct this?

You need players who can win their own ball. When the team is on top we have a number of players who contribute but when the heat is on, they are liabilities.
Out of our 127 contested possessions, Everett and Gorringe had 1 contested possession between them. Everett 1 and Gorringe 0. In our last loss Everett had 1 contested possession.
You find out more about your players in losses than you do with wins.
Unfortunately we're not good enough to carry blokes who only want to add the cream. Lots of lessons out of todays game.

Well said 99, you can not compare Everitt's effort with Lamb. Lamb didn't dominate but his efforts and willingness to chase was so much more evident than Everitt's effort.

I really hope DVR, Buckley, Cunningham and Boekurst get a good run in the seniors. I think DVR and Boekhurst will be better suited to the better grounds where they can run and carry the ball.

Good lesson today, it really highlighted the fact we need more running midfielders before KPP's.
