Were always going to get flogged tonight.
6 day break after very physical encounter last Sundày
Badly undersized
Against top of the ladder, undefeated opponent stung last week after embarrassing 2nd half.
We were ripe for the picking.
If this was last year, we'd have lost by 100.
Waite is a flog who has shat on us either through comments in interviews, or actions on the field against us since leaving. Judd was right about him when he said Waite will be a football gypsy. Won't have a club to belong to when he retires. Hated by his former club. Won't be remembered by current Club as will only play 2-3 years there. He can EAD!!

His skills are really scratchy....I thought he presented well from limited opportunities. Knows how to lead as a forward....but footskills and decision making lacking tonight.

I'd suggest it's Lamb that Boekhorst is fighting for a spot with, whereas walker would have made way for C. Curnow if he were available.

Just belted out of the Middle tonight! Who cares about North anyway, they will just fall apart in the finals again anyways

Their finals record has been good the last two years. Made the preliminary final 2 years in a row from the elimination final.

Traditionally the team that finishes 1 or 2 after the home and away more times than not gets to the g/final.
We can pretty much put North down as a g/finl team unless something bizarre happens.
They have the best ruckman in the league..so injury to Goldstein is probably their only hurdle.

The question is - and this is what good journalists should be asking - why has the AFL funded North Melbourne 's development with over 10 million dollars in payments that other clubs didn't get access to?
Do they still get "special" financial assistance? or did it stop this year as a result of the AFL getting North to where they want them?

Are the Brisbane Lions the next team to be given the AFL's special brand of assistance?

Unless injured, Walker won't miss the Indigenous Round.

We got beaten in every department, but our ball movement is still a lot better than the last few seasons.

We'll see where North will be in the next few years when Waite, Petrie, Dal Santo, Firrito and Harvey all retire.

Four out of five very punchable turds.

Wasn't a return to anywhere.
North just way too good.

We looked tired.
Didn't convert.
Missed Kreuzer.

Gorringe was never going to be any good against Goldstein.

yep. well said

He had no opposition but Goldstein was exceptional. Not only did he get his hands to the ball but his tap work was remarkable. They were well drilled as a midfield unit and their mids took the ball on the move at all times making them almost impossible to man up.
Excellent planning and the outcome of a well coached midfield unit who work for each other. Plenty of learnings from the game. They were simply too good.

We were due a loss and North bathed us. We've never done 6- day turnarounds, and with injuries and no depth it was a perfect storm. Next week will be worse. Cats will play angry.

Casboult might be the most (structurally) important player in our side.

Unfortunately very disappointed with the outcome last night but we didn’t play well at all
Our mids really didn’t set up or contest properly to shark against Goldstein so we were under pressure from the start
Our defence was constantly under pressure but did well under the circumstances
You can tell weitering was a bit hesitant at the start but the kid quickly got his confidence back and started taking those intercepting marks again
Our forwards really didn’t do themselves or our mids any favours by not giving each other space or leading nearly enough but their pressure when not in possession was excellent
One thing I can’t understand is what you people expected from gorringe, the kid is playing his first game with us, has played 20 games in four years and came in against arguably the best ruck in the last few years
Get a grip on expectations try looking and the experience gained and long term potential before you trash another player
If you need to point the finger his support has more to answer for

Cats may play angry but anger doesn't win matches, its structure and personnel that makes the difference.
The stats tell us North kicked 11 goals to 1 from stoppages. Mainly off the back of Goldstein. That was the tale of the game.

Personally I thought our structure and system held together well. Our defence still functioned well under immense pressure and our ball movement when we won it back was still good. Geelong won't be able to dictate terms like North did. I'd still like to think we'll be more than competitive.
The crucial point is our players can't lose faith or confidence after last night. If they lose confidence, zones and presses soon become compromised. Hopefully they'll view the game in context, put it behind them and attack next weeks game with belief.

I rang up 3AW and sang the Carlton song after the game. I was so proud of the team.

Picked the wrong ruckman. Wood has the size and capabilities to hold his own at least against anyone even if he doesn't beat them. Always gives decent opposition in the ruck.

This.
Gorringe isn't solid enough yet. Goldstein held him off with one arm and then tapped it with the other.

I thought last week they might put Wood in and I think Gorringe was a poor choice for first ruck. I also thought they might have tried to shore up the defence by moving Rowe back, Touhy or Byrne forward and using Everitt as a marking forward with Gorringe.

North reminded me of Collingwood the year they won it with their swarm at the ball carrier. Most of our possessions were under pressure.

I don't know what the free count was but I thought we had the worst of it. Lindsay Thomas is a cheat in thatreard and the umpires should be made to look at the frees they give him for all sorts of reasons. The one in front of goal where he backed into Touhy and threw his head back and his arms in the air was worthy of an oscar. Goal.

I was a little disappointed with the margin at the end but they didn't fold in the last despite two early goals from outside 50 in the opening minute.

One of the big plusses for me was the presser. Bolts says it like it is whilst maintaining his enthusiasm and his positive outlook. The players would look at that and know they will be scrutinized but not crucified. They are allowed to make mistakes as long as they learn from them.

Another plus was White keeping Petrie quiet. Weitering was the only one who could match their forwards for height. Touhy did OK on Waite as well.

Another one was getting a lesson in taps to advantage. I know Jim says it is a made up stat but a look in the wash up at what a decent tap ruck can achieve is worth a lot. If Gorringe stays in next week, it can't be as a ruck, it has to be as a mobile tall forward, maybe relieving ruck at best. Rowe is needed in defence. So, Wood in.

And one more thing. If I were Bolton I would say, "After the game, you go to Waite and Henderson, shake their hands and walk away. No huggy smiley stuff. They abandoned this club and talked it down and they are no friends of Carlton and the playing group in the public arena."

Another big challenge next week. Wood in to give a contest so the Geelong mids don't get an armchair ride.
