What is the point of this thread? Has anyone other than Cecil bothered to read how the zones work?
http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-aca ... 037fcae93cI read it...yeah just for "multicultural"/ Indigenous aspect...but that is going to be the first step.
Wait five years and see if the AFL meddles with this concept. That is what I am talking about - looking ahead.
If the AFL wants Carlton to be linked to this zone in a more meaningful way (ie clubs have to bid for all players outside their zone) then that isn't going to go well.
In terms of numbers recruited...this article refers to 76 from the Calder Cannons up to 2013. Northern Knights were below them on 68. That doesn't sound like a big difference - 8 players - but over the course Calder Cannon are considered a "football factory" due in part to the calibre of players recruited from that club.
The premiership player number will need to investigate further. I just did a quick scan. Eccles 98- you were correct on that. So the point of that is if you are going to use statistics do your research.
If posters think the Calder Cannons is the same as the Northern Knights in terms of recruitment I would take a contrary viewpoint.
At the very least, Carlton should have insisted they have a role in two or more zones.
