What is the point of this thread? Has anyone other than Cecil bothered to read how the zones work?

double Northern Knights.
Also similar type of figures with recruiting. In some years the Knights have had just one player selected in the draft.
It is a footy wasteland.

Northern Knights - C Johnson, Caracella, Moorcroft, R Shaw, B Johnson

Pretty sure Adam Simpson and Brent Harvey were premiership players.

Not to mention Andrew Eccles and Heath Shaw.

So by my counting, that's 9 Northern Knights premiership players. Only one less than the 10 you've mentioned from Calder Cannons.

So tap's point is both irrelevant *and* incorrect, cool

I read it...yeah just for "multicultural"/ Indigenous aspect...but that is going to be the first step.

Wait five years and see if the AFL meddles with this concept. That is what I am talking about - looking ahead.

If the AFL wants Carlton to be linked to this zone in a more meaningful way (ie clubs have to bid for all players outside their zone) then that isn't going to go well.

In terms of numbers recruited...this article refers to 76 from the Calder Cannons up to 2013. Northern Knights were below them on 68. That doesn't sound like a big difference - 8 players - but over the course Calder Cannon are considered a "football factory" due in part to the calibre of players recruited from that club.

The premiership player number will need to investigate further. I just did a quick scan. Eccles 98- you were correct on that. So the point of that is if you are going to use statistics do your research.

If posters think the Calder Cannons is the same as the Northern Knights in terms of recruitment I would take a contrary viewpoint.

At the very least, Carlton should have insisted they have a role in two or more zones.

I don't expect the AFL to extend the zoning concept to include all players, like you're suggesting, that's where we differ Tap. In fact, I think it's more likely they scale back the zoning concessions available to GWS, rather than increasing zoning for Victorian clubs.

The afl can't mess with the formula. They have put plenty into developing the popularity of the draft over the years. Why would they try to dilute that process? This scheme is for developing a new frontier of recruiting, nothing more.

It's all a front for the AFL's @#$%&! Carlton scheme IMO.

You could be right. If it stays how it is though, the northern corridor offers us plenty in terms of developing the target demographic.

Glass half full gents.
