We have enough midfield depth. Whiley would be a far better option against the big body mids.
White is a trier but we need to move past triers.
You have more confidence in Whiley than I do. I hope I'm wrong, but I see him as no more than a trier too.
Yep
Whiley is a trier but he's a 23 year old making his way. He's shown an ability to win the hard ball and to shut down opponents.
White is an undersized KPP who turns 28 in a couple of months. Hs not the future, in fact, he's barely good enough to play a part in the present. He's also played very little time as a midfielder. If its a choice between a 23 year old potential midfielder and White, I'll take the younger player every time.
All eyes should be on the future.
I agree with your overall point about needing to look to the future. Another way to look at it though is to say that Cripps is vital to our future and is still very young himself. We need another big body to go in there and block, tackle etc. White is one of our harder nuts and his disposal is on par with Whiley (ie. not flash).
Between Kreuzer, Cripps, Kerridge & White we are capable of physically hurting the opposition. That should help bring the likes of Murphy, Gibbs, Graham & Boekhorst into the game, and ease the grunt load on Cripps. The other reason I prefer White to Whiley is White can also do jobs as a medium/tall at both ends. And I don't think Whiley is better at tagging than White.
I guess the bottom line is....I don't rate Whiley.
Let's hope he proves me totally wrong
