He's fit, and you're not going to play him in the VFL. He's far too good for that, and even if he only contributes 85 minutes of footy, that's now acceptable given the 4-man interchange.

As it is, he'll probably play half his game up forward, so he's a good chance to play more than that.

I picked him forward in my team, could snag some very handy goals.

I think we'd need more speed than Whiley.

So we're keeping richmond goal-less?

Geez Rex. That is almost the identical team I picked! With one exception. I had Charlie Curnow in and not Silvagni. Why do you have Silvagni ahead of Charlie (and yes I've read Schache in your teams before so I don't know if you're being serious or not). :sly:

I was hugely impressed with SOJ in the Essendon* game as he showed no fear, willingly got involved and wasn't over-awed at all.
Good skills under pressure and a good footy brain.
So given our position, I say why not give him a taste.

Dunno because I'm not sure who's in the team now.

But I think Whiley is strictly an inside mid and we may already have Cripps, Kerridge and Curnow

Let SOJ develop some in the 2's. No need to rush him in, just think he's not quite ready, hasn't got the body yet for senior footy. Few kgs and match practice in the 2's and he could be a fine player...

Well Yazz definitely won't be playing in this game or any time soon.

White is a trier but we need to move past triers.

You have more confidence in Whiley than I do. I hope I'm wrong, but I see him as no more than a trier too.

Yep

Whiley is a trier but he's a 23 year old making his way. He's shown an ability to win the hard ball and to shut down opponents.
White is an undersized KPP who turns 28 in a couple of months. Hs not the future, in fact, he's barely good enough to play a part in the present. He's also played very little time as a midfielder. If its a choice between a 23 year old potential midfielder and White, I'll take the younger player every time.
All eyes should be on the future.

True, but I think that with our lack of good ball users that BB will try to use Gibbs outside more than inside.

Although Gibbs ball use in the pre-season was pretty bad.

Gibbs is an outside mid and an average one at that - he has never been an inside mid

He seemed to play inside mid a bit under MM and Bolts has used him there a bit in the pre-season when Cripps was out.

I agree with your overall point about needing to look to the future. Another way to look at it though is to say that Cripps is vital to our future and is still very young himself. We need another big body to go in there and block, tackle etc. White is one of our harder nuts and his disposal is on par with Whiley (ie. not flash).

Between Kreuzer, Cripps, Kerridge & White we are capable of physically hurting the opposition. That should help bring the likes of Murphy, Gibbs, Graham & Boekhorst into the game, and ease the grunt load on Cripps. The other reason I prefer White to Whiley is White can also do jobs as a medium/tall at both ends. And I don't think Whiley is better at tagging than White.

I guess the bottom line is....I don't rate Whiley.

Let's hope he proves me totally wrong

Problem is most of us don't rate White as a midfielder!
