One replaces Mars as a joint partner and the club ought to be congratulated on that deal as it's quite strong given the clubs position...and the second replaces William Hill as a Gold sponsor.

Good. I can't stand William Hill.

Cheers Sticks. Better the Swans than Hawks to play twice at least.

Hawthorn v Richmond, round 18 2015,Friday night. Both team threatening...at the top of their game...
game was OK...Tiges got up....
Both teams have "massive membership"...
I think Hawks have 32 million and Tiges increased to 70 gazillion this year. ..
Official crowd: 66,305 at the MCG.

and.....are you ready for this.....

THIS IS THE BIGGEST HOME AND AWAY CROWD BETWEEN THESE TWO TEAMS....EVER!

The AFLis juggling funny numbers...but in the end they're only creating a problem for themsleves. They can only pretend that everyone is interested in GWS

Double the average attendance at an AFL match. Healthy crowd. The rest is noise. No need to pay too much attention.

Good news. Means I don't have to be in a shitty mood about footy for an entire weekend after another pathetic spineless effort, and my tipping margin won't be shot to hell.

No trip to Adelaide AGAIN??

Is that the second year in a row? We have a great supporter base in SA... :banghead: :banghead:

So bottom 6 teams don't have to play a top 6 team twice...........but even though we came LAST, we still have to play Sydney twice?

You're surprised that the AFL doesn't follow its own formula?

Nah, they've followed the formula....just not for Carlton. Essendon* are only playing Richmond (middle 6) twice out of the top 8 last year.
So in other words, Essendon* (who finished 15th) have an easier draw than us.

We should be playing another middle 6 or bottom 6 team twice - not Sydney.

But then again who gives a ****? SOS probably wants us to have the toughest draw

This IS the AFL formula.
Sydney plays GWS twice. 8 points but getting harder.
So they play us twice 8 points and steady for a while.
Sydney starts the year with 16 points guaranteed. It fits the need the AFL has that Sydney stay in the top 4 if possible but in the top 8 anyway.
They only have to win eight more games and they're OK.
Suns? tick
Brisbane? tick.
StK? tick.
Melbourne? tick.
Essendon*? tick.

There's five more and all from the bottom teams.
So now we're up to nine gimmes for Sydney and they still haven't played anybody of note.

Do I need to go on?

Is it just me or we have a lot of emotional people over not much?

So what if we dont play friday night. I actually would rather watch a competitive game on friday night with mates at a pub than a carlton bad loss.

This game is a business and if we were on the stock exchange our club is very low on stock. No one wants to watch carlton right now. Afl wants to attract new business, not lose business. They need their ratings up for the next tv deal. The game is no longer for supporters but big business. When you realise that you will be less emotional. They dont care about sponsors coming to cfc as they will top us up anyway if they have to.

But how many people just want to watch an anonymous game of competitive AFL between two nothing teams with no personal stake in the outcome? Go red or Go Blue.. who cares, which team are you going for tonight etc. On another forum I posted that as my team hadnt made the finals I couldnt care less and probably wouldnt even watch. Somewbody told me that i wasnt a true AFL fan and I agreed. How many people are able to just remove themselves from following a team and from a detached perspective just enjoy a contest even thought they have no personal investment in the outcome. I find that hard. i get the drama, I like the occasion and I like the sport but there is so much more at stake when your team is involved.

I am at a stage of life where I don't often go to the pub with mates to have a beer and watch the footy (mores the pity). I have a couple of old mates that i normally go to Friday night MCG games with but Saturdays are horrendously busy and I wont be able to fit CFC in I'm afraid. Given the choice between a gripping Hawthorn Collingwood game at the MCG with high drama and a close finish with my 3 old mates and a few beers afterwards, I would probably rather just head home after work. Catching up with my mates would be good but in all honesty I would be mildly interested in the footy at best. With no personal interest in the outcome it would be hard to focus.

We appeared in 20 per cent of the highest drawing games for 2015 (4 out of 20) ... a year that we sacked our coach, lost our most high profile player early in the season and finished bottom.

But wait ... there are more BLOCKBUSTERS planned next year. Richmond vs Melbourne ... 58,000. :screwy:

No trip to Adelaide is disappointing (said the same thing last year). How we play 4 games against Adelaide based teams in a 2 year period and haven't had to travel there for any of them has got me stuffed. Same as Hawthorn playing in Brisbane this year for the first time since 2008. It's stupid. Home game one year, away game the next must be too simple.

The drought-or-famine approach to interstate trips which the AFL has is moronic. As much as I'd love to have several Carlton matches in sydney every year, as well as a home match or 2 on Canberra, surely the smart approach now that there are 2 teams in every non-Victorian state would be to plan for at least one match in every away state every year, alternating the teams played against, with the occasional second match, and/or a second trip to some states for the preseason.

We finished bottom 6 last year yet had to play the reigning premiers twice this year.
