Is it just me or we have a lot of emotional people over not much?
So what if we dont play friday night. I actually would rather watch a competitive game on friday night with mates at a pub than a carlton bad loss.
This game is a business and if we were on the stock exchange our club is very low on stock. No one wants to watch carlton right now. Afl wants to attract new business, not lose business. They need their ratings up for the next tv deal. The game is no longer for supporters but big business. When you realise that you will be less emotional. They dont care about sponsors coming to cfc as they will top us up anyway if they have to.
But how many people just want to watch an anonymous game of competitive AFL between two nothing teams with no personal stake in the outcome? Go red or Go Blue.. who cares, which team are you going for tonight etc. On another forum I posted that as my team hadnt made the finals I couldnt care less and probably wouldnt even watch. Somewbody told me that i wasnt a true AFL fan and I agreed. How many people are able to just remove themselves from following a team and from a detached perspective just enjoy a contest even thought they have no personal investment in the outcome. I find that hard. i get the drama, I like the occasion and I like the sport but there is so much more at stake when your team is involved.
I am at a stage of life where I don't often go to the pub with mates to have a beer and watch the footy (mores the pity). I have a couple of old mates that i normally go to Friday night MCG games with but Saturdays are horrendously busy and I wont be able to fit CFC in I'm afraid. Given the choice between a gripping Hawthorn Collingwood game at the MCG with high drama and a close finish with my 3 old mates and a few beers afterwards, I would probably rather just head home after work. Catching up with my mates would be good but in all honesty I would be mildly interested in the footy at best. With no personal interest in the outcome it would be hard to focus.
