VFL park, rd 1 1986. Debut of Doro, Braddles and Sticks. We lost but we had the basis for a new era.

And yep, the Minty goal was a cracker! I drove to the ground at half time, saw only 1 Carlton goal but it was worth it.

Did Mots and Mil debut that day too?
And Wallsy's first game as coach.

Mark Naley and Richard Dennis as well I think

Rocky Dennis was Rd 2 1987. I saw that game too. Saw 5 mins of him, turned to a Carlton mate and said "sheesh, who's this bloke ? He's going to be awesome!"

How good was that footage of the Carl v WCE game? Wow, weren't we spoiled back then. 5 minutes of footy and I don't think there was one scrum or ball up.

...J Brown kicked 10 against us, in Pagan's final game.

...when Carlton lost to Richmond by 18 points, in a 1982 Commonwealth Games exhibition match played at the Brisbane Exhibiton Grounds.

How about 2011 instead?

Murphy's tackle on Davey at 1:35 on the footage below

Are you Justin Murphy? If not, I'm calling bullshit on this one.

Anyway, this would be my favourite moment in football.

If you continued in a straight line from the point of the tackle to centre wing... I was sitting front row on the boundary line. Maybe it was 30-35m. But it felt close enough :-)

OK then 80m. Maybe 78. Maybe 82. Felt like it was "RIGHT THERE". Despite the noise I swear I could hear them hit the ground.

But y'all continue to poke fun if it makes you happy. I'm just happy I was there.

My old man was meant to get us tickets to that game but left it too late (like Tuesday evening) and they'd sold out. He went with his MCC membership and I ended up buying a ticket on eBay at an inflated price. Was assured it was a "general admin" ticket (so you'd assume mixed supporters). Ended up first level up right behind the Richmond cheersquad.

I actually felt scared/intimidated when the Tigers were up and about. Noise was ridiculous. Was pretty quiet in the last quarter though....

Kouta to full forward in the last quarter when the game was up for grabs.

Saw him do it to Jamie Shanahan out at Waverley a year before Jarman made it look easy, and Richard Champion twice in one year in 95.

The three that stand out for me:

1. The 30.30.210 game. I still remember lots of little moments from it.
Only snippets for me too Moshe. Standing on the terraces, Press Box wing PP, with my Hawthorn supporting best mate (now famous, John Silvester) as Ian Robertson drilled a 60 metre drop kick goal scoreboard end, late in party time in the last quarter. John only reminded me of this game again recently. He even remembered Hawthorns score 12.10.82

I know it's uncool to revist the 1999 PF.... But......I've been to 7 of the 8 Carlton Flags 1968-95, only missing 1987 when I was living in the USA and sat alone at 3am in Boston doing a Blue Sombrero watching the game on ESPN.

Apart from 70 and 72, the 99 PF gave me as much joy as I can ever remember. Sharing that siren moment with my then 6 year old son. Absolute elation, tears of joy, hugging strangers, fist pumping, singing the song over and over.

Why? The game had everything. Arguably one of the the greatest Essendon* teams of all time. Carlton rank underdogs. Unbelievable Essendon* cockiness with supporters buying 99 GF caps outside the MCG before our game had started. Essendon* supporters already queuing up and reserving their spots for GF tickets. Carlton unexpected fast start, jumped them. Held the lead at half time. Could we hold on. Essendon* went bang in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter, our lead disappearing in a flash. Darren Bewick especially annoying. Essendon* cruising to a comfortable victory. Then the last quarter. Kouta the quarter from heaven. Forward pack marks, towering defensive marks. Aaron Hamill. Lances huge goal from outside 50 members wing. Drew Morphett. He's not confident, he doesn't think he can get the distance. The massive curling drop punt. Matthew Lloyds snap goals keeping them in it despite SOS's desperate lunges. Mercuri's miss from close range. The final heart stopping minutes. The Karma bus when that scum Dean Wallis tried to take on Dog Brown. The tackle of the century. On to Ratts then to Justin Murphy. Murphy''s jump for joy when the siren sounded. And then absolute pandemonium.
Remember it like it was yesterday. Probably highly exaggerated.

Me and my son were there.

I was there with with my father, brother, wife and as soon as we won we rang my sister, working in Dublin at the time who's as die hard as they come, and we sang the song with her. That was a good day indeed RickJ ps. my wife is Collingwood and she laughed as we hugged and cried and sang (and sang the song with us!)
