How do you know Barker was shit . he may have been sitting in the background nashing his teeth following instructions.
He might have learnt not what to do as a senior coach

First time poster, long time reader of these forums. Just reading the last few pages has got me really angry. I've followed Carlton for over 30 years. I love the club, haven't missed watching a game for years (Whether that is going or watching the game on tv). If John Barker gets the job as coach then I'm done with this club. He's been here for what 5 years and they honestly think he is the best person for the club?

We are such an amateur football club, so much I'd like to say....but what's the point. RIP Carlton.

Quality first post!

You'd think the dolts that make up our board, who've overseen the last three appointments would have a clue by now as well.

Can someone please point me to a position group Barker was coaching and see the improvement he conjured?

It's a genuine question I'm not trying to be a smart arse.

How does a coach who's been present every step of the way over the last five years, resulting in a playing culture as we currently see it, possibly turn it around? This is the bloke who said himself multiple players have checked out - with him in charge! And he's the best possible candidate in Australia to rebuild the same group. Holy mackerel.

I had no idea coaching stocks were so low.

Does anyone really think that Judd would be a part of a dodgy process to find our next coach?
As someone has pointed out maybe some candidates simply do not want the job and the field has been somewhat shortened.

This is the clear counter-argument, but that just gives us 'Barker the good bloke', 'Barker the yes man', 'No opinion Barker', 'Barker the self-serving', 'Barker the spineless'.

The public face of his time at the club is not great, and it's a tremendously bold move to make him run things now.

AGRO's sous chef analogy is a decent take, but a professional kitchen is a much more compressed and egotistical environment than even a football club; Barker has had years to be able to find his feet and breathe, and it's pretty clear his philosophy on football hasn't been drastically different from those he's worked with, but that says a lot about football more than Barker.

We certainly don't have enough information to make this call, but if you could quantify such things, Barker would want to be able to produce something at least 5% better than the other candidates because the supporters are going to quick to turn up the heat if the results aren't evident.

I don't think there would be to many in the industry which would question Mick.
I've have seen lots of really talented people follow the company line be it right wrong or indifferent but when given the chance to show their wears have excelled

I just don't think a football club is ultimately the kind of environment, both in culture and size, where you see people slip between the cracks rather than climb the ladder.

I'd take one clear example of him showing his wares with a position group.

Might not be alot of potential coaches who put their hand up either. Adelaide's a bit more enticing.

So our potential result at the end of 2015, after all the talk of a huge rebuild, is a long term assistant hired as senior coach, and zero or minimal board change.

This is fantastic.

In SOS we trust.

No faith in grro? He seems very sure.

I'm sure between his mail and yours, someone could offer you guys a success story of Barker's. He must have racked up plenty after five years.
