His opposition backmen run off him, his 2nd efforts are often poor, his 1st efforts tonight were worse. It was a horrible game from a Key Fwd, zero work rate . I'd rather play Watson and Casboult together.

If he leaves and goes to Geelong, I'm sure they'll play him down back, and he will go on to have a very good career as a key defender.

Spot on. Can only think of one person on this entire forum who thinks otherwise, and their relentless machine gun posts littered with full stops and no respect for English grammatical rules gives the casual observer the idea that Hendo forward has merit and that this is a genuine controversy.

No. Hendo has great hands floating back, is a superb intercept mark, is a nice accurate short kick, and fills space brilliantly in the back half. He doesn't have the burst speed, leap, depth of kick, or dare I say it running patterns to be a great forward. As Gerry has said, workmanlike key position forward, potentially gun AA key position back.

I arrived early at the MCG tonight, and he was out on the ground at 645 on his own with a trainer having 50 or more shots at goal from the city end, but none longer than 35 metres. The bloke is trying, but it is not his set shot kicking from 35 metres that is the problem.

Pantsed by the gay icon stalkee Richmond CHB tonight. NTTAWWT.

Decent effort but we just looked sloppy.

Carrots continually did something good then nullified it with something bad. Nice evasion, then kick to Tigers player, etc. Hendo hasn't looked right all season to me. Tutt is just a liability. Holman did some nice things & is improving.

Kreuzer good game. The guy who was paid that mark for being in front should just be given mark of the year while they are at it.

Anyway, meh. Shit game.

On carlton, that went about as expected. We just don't have enough talented players, that's what happens when you miss so many 1st and 2nd round draft picks over an extended period.

So our skills are poor and we are left with players like Tutt, Bell, Army and co who have glaring deficiencies that just can't cut it.

Hendo smashed up forward, proved how good he can be down back but we all know this.
Menzel couldn't get a sniff, if he isnt training, why isn't he recuperating?
Yarran has lost his head.
Curnow, Carrots, White, Army, Bell, Tutt, wood, Casboult all are poor field kicks. You just can't expect to be a good team with so many bad kicks.

It will take a few years

First of all, AFL is not a game.
Second, Casboult did not miss a kick tonight and also landed a nice 30 metre pass on is left side. His field kicking has never been an issue more than anybody else, unlike his shooting for goal, which is now not so much of an issue. I can understand why posters have favourite players and favourite whipping boys alike but don't make shit up.

Thanks Gramps, I'll remember that, cheers for taking the time to point out. Well worth your time.

Casboult has improved his kicking no doubt, and his goalkicking, I'm a big advocate of his and think he really contributes for us.
But if you think he is a quality field kick, then you are kidding yourself. He did well tonight, but he isn't a consistently a quality kick or decision maker - which is fine, because he is a big bloke and not that many are. The point is, combined with the other buttons of poor kicks in the side, it doesn't give us much of a chance. What part of that 'shit' is made up?

If Tutt plays another senior game I'll spew up.

If Yarran, Henderson and Menzel don't want to play hard, they can leave.

If the umpires think they had a good game, I give up.

Fields played well in his debut. A couple of mistakes, but generally contested well and a lovely kick.

What a mixed bag of nuts tonights game was.

Richmond came out with one attitude, pure dirty Hardwick style, snipe our leadership early. Murphy, Jamison, Cripps and anyone else who went near it, on or off the play. Normally I think we would have responded with our own fierce tackling, but we looked tired and flat tonight.

Because we have some major deficiencies it doesn't take much to upset the apple cart. We're either all in and red hot, or we struggle moving the ball with any efficiency. Here is where depth plays such an important roll in a clubs fortunes. And where about as deep as a puddle of mud at the moment playing few too many injured and underdone players. When this scenario comes into play, our lack of depth is exploited, and its going to be VERY interesting over the next couple of drafts to see how we rectify this.

For what we do have in personnel, their showing an endeavor to be competitive which has to be applauded. I don't think we're the complete flop many are thinking we are. I think we just need to develop what we have, and draft well to give us some real depth to cover injuries and out of form players.

There may be nothing wrong with Yarran other than he's in a bad patch with form, or he maybe injured. Having him out there for lack of depth can really hurt us as was displayed tonight. Our main objective, as Barker has repeated from the get go is, we need to be competitive regardless, week in and week out.

We are doing this, and its been a much better effort than what we saw of the team under Malthouse. But now its crunch time for all concerned and a very real dilemma we face. We have no depth, we have injured and undone players, and we're coming into the pointy end of the season.

If we rest who we should rest, we'll be severely undermanned and go straight back to Malthouse type thumpings against top teams. If we don't rest who we should rest we risk injury to players, and straight back to Malthouse type thumpings against top teams. Talk about a rock and a hard place ...

There is ONLY one way out of this - recruiting and development. Until then, we're just not going to be able to maintain the rage for an entire season. We're making some good inroads, giving the kids a splash in the big league which will pay dividends long term. Looking at half the bodies we had out on the park tonight, their just skinny kids. This is why Barker is trying to play them to their strengths in letting them off the leash and telling them to go for it. They are in no condition to maintain this week in and week out. And we'd be foolish to expect them to be able to do so - Cripps included. Sure he's a big bodied midfielder, but he ain't anywhere near his optimum size and strength and he needs to be developed carefully.

Things are not good, but we all knew that. Things are better, which we all appreciate. But we've got a ways to go as a club moving forward. My eye is on the development of our list, regardless of our win/loss ratio because our longterm future is more important than our immediate successes as a club, whether we like it or not.

Just back from the game and totally agree on those observations.
Gibbs is terrified of the contest. Does not run straight at the ball, ever. Very disappointing game from him. Where is the player we had last year.
Also our captain does not run both ways. Carrazzo days are numbered.
Re the umpires - did not have a good game, so many 50:50 calls went Richmond's way. The game now is so much harder to umpire because the player is not encouraged to go in for the ball. It is a game for the dweller.

Back to watching on line in Beijing next week.

Sorry but I'm going to say it again: geez we missed natural goal kickers tonight, small/opportunistic forwards. There were times that the ball got to ground and Richmond crumbed and ran it out far too easily.
We missed them Betts, Garlett, Waite...

Where are the replacements...?

For mine, very little to get enthused about from tonight's game. Except maybe Kreuz.

Effort may still be there but we simply butcher the ball. By hand and foot. Our skill level is deplorable and we get zero scoreboard reward for our efforts. As a weak side, we just can't afford that. Won't win games at any level kicking 5 goals.

Yarran is a major disappointment at the moment. Very much a liability for mine. Hendo not much better.

We have too many players, like Tutt, that unfortunately aren't AFL standard.

Just back from the G. I reckon Blues fans were outnumbered about ten to one. We fought hard but skill errors and awful goalkicking cost us. Really unlucky to lose jammo at the start, esp when we didn't have Rowe in. I though White battled hard, he is one of the few with mongrel and I like him. If he doesn't have to play ag the oppo's best forward he can be useful for us. Fields was okay ag a much bigger opponent, Very disappointing that we didn't see him unleash a torp.

Tuohy solid but made a few uncharacteristic errors. Like Buck's game, and Levi provided a target and took his marks tonight. Hendo was slaughtered by Rance who is an absolute gun. If we had any key forwards Hendo could play back. Maybe as others say Jones needs another chance. if he can't get a game in this side then we are really in strife, and who the hell decided to recruit him? . Really missing a small forward, Army has been good but wasn't sighted tonight and just doesn't have the tricks of a Betts or Garlett. Everitt looked injured and I doubt Menzel is right, altho he needs compete way harder.

Yarran is such a disappointment, in a side with little class he oozes talent but just looks disinterested. Out him in the middle and tell him to just get the ball. I hate the idea of losing one our few talented players but if he won't put in more then we have little choice but to trade him and watch him star somewhere else.

Big K was very good, altho i though Hammo was quite good for them. We should look at rookieing him when he gets delisted at year's end. I like Tutt he really tries hard and works hard, but he fumbles and his kicking is poor. I thought Holman showed a bit and we should persevere with him.

For a club so down on class players it is beyond astonishing that we would swap out of the first round of last years draft. Watching us just shows how incredible Chris Judd was. How did we ever think we were close to a flag 2 years ago? We have got to get some games into anyone in the 2s and make a final call on a few guys. The marking decision ag Big K was the single worse umpiring decision I have seen since the lat 1980s at VFL Park ag C'wood when Mark Naley got pinged for running to far because the ump failed to see him touch the ball on the ground during his run.

Another really average spectacle. The last two weeks have been pretty forgettable affairs.

It was the same old story really - the endeavour is there, but not the execution. We consistently undo so much of our hard work because we just don't have enough talent and class.

Another injury really early in the game - haven't done any research on it, but it feels like this happens quite a lot with us? Considering we lost Jamo so early and Rowe didn't play either, to hold them to 10 goals is a fair effort.

Kreuzer was the big positive out of the night.
