way too much hysteria on this thread.
For what he was brought in to do, malthouse failed and failed badly. If anything he is lucky to be given through to round 11 for a 'decision'.
As for comments about his wife/family - they are irrelevant. There have been very very few (if any) posts or news articles etc that have mentioned his family in a negative light. It's an issue malthouse raises on occasion as a herring, nothing more. AFL coaches are in high profile gigs and are extremely well renumerated as a result (too well) - pressure is part of the job. If it the family can't handle the pressure of a 500k-1mill/annum job, walk away.
Board was in a tough spot (self imposed). They could either
- sack mick immediately (and deal with the fall out of 'disrespecting a legend')
- wait till the end of the year (and lose $$$/members etc)
- or put a definite time frame on things as they have now (still going to cop flack but nowhere near as much as the other 2 options).
We all know the board is inadequate - however for all the bleating on here (particularly those that have connections/know people at the club), how many of you have actually done anything about it? (And no, I don't consider whinging to a board member/random at the club isn't doing anything about it)
See, I don't get the dissing of someone just because they are "well remunerated". What the hell does that have to do with it?
His record with us is poor. We know that. The club is in a diabolical state - not all his doing. Why is it that we get successful coaches to walk in our doors only to leave in embarrassment? Pagan, and now Malthouse. They are proven premiership coaches. Did they deliver the club squat, or did the club deliver them squat?
It wouldn't matter if we got Clarkson, Longmire or Ross Lyon right now. We'd still be bleak. But if you are going to terminate, then do it with dignity and honour. Not with ridicule and shame.
