Let's just get another successful premiership winning coach who has never known failure, and let our special mix of players and committeemen destroy their reputation and tarnish their image.

If you're good at something, why change a successful formula.

Article from around this time last year. You'd think, if we were truly committed to a rebuild and some fresh ideas, our next coach would have to come from that list...

Malthouse may or may not be past it, but it's clear that whatever he's selling, the players ain't buyin'.

Reckon this week could be another Robert Walls scenario. We lose to Brisbane, Mick is a dead duck.

He's already dead.

We just dont have the money to pay him and all his mates out yet.

This could be the longest and darkest season of all time.

Couple of posters on BF are claiming they've heard his name mentioned.

Would have to be in the mix if we go through all the right channels.

I'm hesitant to look at anyone in that head coach program; if I were a prospective head coach I'd want to hear the results before buying into something that makes you look like a rote learner rather than a creative individual.

I'd like to hear from people who genuinely watched the game Friday night, either at home or at the ground: what tactics did you see that you could identify?

Genuine answers, if you can manage it, not hyperbole and sarcasm.

I saw attempts at zone defending in midfield, I saw our kick out strategy built to try and nullify the forward pressure of the opposition, to protect our kicker from being mowed down too readily if they took the play on option.

In the same set play, there was an option to move the ball to Buckley by hand on the right flank if we didn't have a decent long option. There were misdirects and what the NFL would call a 'bubble pass' and there were screens to set this up as a means of shifting the zone. They weren't executing it particularly well, so it needs to be reinforced with simulation drills, but they were making the Pies players shuffle around a bit.

Sadly there wasn't much trust in any of these tactics after quarter time.

One that did come off a bit more consistently, was a late run forward into the empty hot spot, which we hit up several times for goals. I know we didn't kick many, but that's a nice weapon to add into the mix for us as part of a larger structure, if it ever manages to coalesce (it hasn't for 10 years, so not really holding up much hope when we have such dumb forwards beyond Menzel).

I think anyone would say that we love our boss when a camera is put in front of them.

If you know Mick, you want to suck up to him, as you know that once you are in his doghouse you are gone. I was at the game, but l noticed on the tv at 1/2 time there was Eddie being interviewed and the caption it stated Mick gave Eddie a handshake for the first time since leaving the club. That is the type of person we have at our club. A bitter old man, that can't get over things and move on. Has no gratitude for a club that gave him a long term of service and allowed him to go out peacefully. Instead, he creates a rift with the Pies, as they choose another coach in their best interests. He was done at the Pies and Carlton fell for the fantasy of him coming around and taking us to a flag.

He will leave Carlton and just bag out a club in the media for a long time. We show him respect, but he doesn't deserve it.

As for who takes over a club if he gets sacked or quits, Laidley should be able to handle the team. Senior coach at the roos, l have more hope in Laidley winning a few games then MM.

I don't mind Laidleys record. Apart from 2006 (injury plagued?) and his last year that l guess he lost the players like Mick has now. He has had a record of 10 or more wins per season.

2003 - 11W / 10L
2004 - 10W / 12L
2005 - 13W / 10L
2006 - 7W / 15L
2007 - 15W / 10L
2008 - 12W / 10L
2009 - 4W / 8L

I would give him a crack for the rest of the season and look in the offseason for a new coach.

Yep. Said he thought about it too.

Probably the last one I will receive. Cancelled my membership today. It will go unnoticed but it's my small personal protest. Enough is enough.

Had to grab a tissue watching that. :) The way he is talking about playing brisbane is like we are playing a very good side and doesnt expect to win. wtf

And He honestly doesnt think he is at fault. Playing group ofcourse. All about the playing group. Only answer is to just pick players in reserves and hope to hell they are the great white hope.

He is waiting to be sacked for the payout. He is done

I don't know if sacking Malthouse is going to change much, I don't think so long term the issues run deeper than that but it seems inevitable.

What do people think of Shaun Hart? Has been around awhile, seen success as a player, has connections with some GC players and is currently at Port, which is a good blueprint for how to start turning things around.

Doesn't look like he would take shit from the players either.

Thoughts, anyone know much about him?

malthouse may be a problem....but our issues run much deeper....not sure how much will come by changing MM before the season is out..

lets face it we could do with a decent draft pick by finishing as low as possible......throw in another one with a trade for gibbs and we have 3 in the top 20..

Juddy and carrots gone will allow is to buy a free agent

...exactly what a new coach will need

did you hear Juddie's diplomatic answer to a q. about MM continuing on SEN?
:sly:
(I don't think they are braithy.)
