OK. I'll buy that.

I think you're referring to Hodge Boak and Selwood types?
I think there's a greater spread of leaders but you can see it in those guys eyes they mean business.

I can think of the Carey influence on a whole group.

Diesel had a lot of influence....he came to carlton for a flag and was single minded on that. I think that's what we need, but I can see we don't have runners to break lines and evade chasers and have too many plodders.

..hell, even a player like Maxwell.. ....average ability but raised himself with heart and consistent effort, and made sure that everyone could look him in the eye and claim they did the same..

....I actually think our list talent isn't that bad, but we don't get anywhere near the full potential out of it.. ..which makes it hard to get a reading on.. ....all our leaders want to be liked.. ....not enough are willing to step on toes to get the best out of each other, even if it means upsetting the boat..

..heh, I didn't say it was great, or even good... ..just not 'that' bad.... ..in all honesty I think it's truly hard to gauge because of the insipid efforts from so many on a regular basis..

List Management .....

And there's also team selection

If David ELlard is player #24 (ie picked for ROund 2) then we are more effed than anyone has considered.

Sure as a back up player in ROund 15 with a deep injury list. But at the start of the season?

..we are a weak, gutless and lazy team whose highest trait as a team, is selfish play.. ..Ellard is very average talent wise, but at our club is A+ for heart.. ..this is why he plays.. ..ditto Curnow, Rowe, white and others.. ..most of our good skilled players are crap at most things afl champs have/do..

...as were Waite Betts and Garlett...but geez I'd like them in the team till MM finds a replacement for each.

I'm hoping I'm right that our problem is in the midfield with all those stars not providing an option ahead when we do get the contested ball. Can't rely on Judd to do it all.

It's an MM issue and its his list now....I think MM is in trouble if the rot continues, along with our list.

Let's see how it pans out....I'm just go smacked how well Waite Betts and Garlett are going near goal and providing speed to the midfield when it's their turn in there.

OMG

....betts is quality, Waite and jeffy are way too inconsistent to be quality enough to build a team with....

..biggest problem is the midfield, but that's been it for a decade now.. ..MM has some responsibility, but so does a few coaches before him too.. ..but mostly it is the players.. ..no excuse for lack of effort.. ..lack of talent can't be helped but effort is player driven and our midfield are lazy front runners, have been for years Before MM came to us..

....Bondi, did you see how devastated Simmo was after wc loss?.. ....i'm a huge fan of his, I think we all are.. ..don't mean too sound harsh when I'm critical of his leadership ability.. ...perhaps he does put the hard word on others, maybe yes maybe no.. ....certainly many players aren't listening.. ..not to him, not to the coaches.. ....questionable leaders in simmo, Judd and carrots won't be around much longer, Murphy and Gibbs aren't half a questionable leader combined..

..for years and years now we have crap leadership on the field.. ....simmo and carrots you can see trying to rev up the team, shouting orders on field and at the bench.... ..but too many just don't listen, they nod yes, make all the right noises.. ..but don't put in.. ..something is seriously Wrong with the list..

Waite kicks 7 with 22 disposals today but MM Gets rid of him over one extra year on his contract, all so that the money can be given to Daisy (MM's mate).....

He Came with a price that has Crippled our Salary Cap because he is clearly being over-paid by a good 300-400K which could have been the difference in offering Waite 2 years instead of 1 or keeping Betts at the Club.... :banghead: :banghead:

Can't have it both ways. For years Waite has been 'a flog, injury riddled, over rated, over paid, over the hill and not worthy of any more than a 1 year contract'.
The club finally plays hard ball, he decides to walk out, and the fans spew crap at the club for letting him walk..

I agree.... But not when you have no replacement for him....

MM has fooled us all by advertising Jones as the beast who will fill his shoes. Its only Round two and we all can clearly See that Jones is nothing more than an Average footballer who will never take this club anywhere!! Waste of space....

You're right.

It's frustrating, and I know it's not Jones and Hendo who are the problem...it's the midfield not getting the nut and delivering for more than 1 quarter....thus far.

It may be only two weeks into the season but the list is several years in the making.

We watched Waite sook around for 12 years and then stand over the club and we blame the coach for drawing a line in the sand. 27 goal a year forward

We watch garlett jump at shadows, pull out of contests, let his personal life effect his football and play up after hours and we blame the coach for drawing a line in the sand.

Good luck to Garlett and Waite
