..bondi, I am not knocking simmo's courage, nor on field effort.. ..as I said he is a good player and as a leader does the nice guy and onfield inspirational stuff.. ..but not good enough to have any culture changing effect.. ..none of our leaders have.. ...and this is my point, no one on our list is enough of a leader to change our crap on field culture.. ..it doesn't detract from anything you say regarding simmo, its just not enough, not by half.. ....we had to get rid of our 'larrikin' players cos our leaders couldn't bring them into line.. ..weak leaders, everywhere..
OK. I'll buy that.
I think you're referring to Hodge Boak and Selwood types?
I think there's a greater spread of leaders but you can see it in those guys eyes they mean business.
I can think of the Carey influence on a whole group.
Diesel had a lot of influence....he came to carlton for a flag and was single minded on that. I think that's what we need, but I can see we don't have runners to break lines and evade chasers and have too many plodders.
..hell, even a player like Maxwell.. ....average ability but raised himself with heart and consistent effort, and made sure that everyone could look him in the eye and claim they did the same..
....I actually think our list talent isn't that bad, but we don't get anywhere near the full potential out of it.. ..which makes it hard to get a reading on.. ....all our leaders want to be liked.. ....not enough are willing to step on toes to get the best out of each other, even if it means upsetting the boat..
