The noise coming from the club all pre-season about Jones was '3rd tall, 3rd tall, 3rd tall'. We get to round 1 and he's the second tall. I think this says a fair bit about how disappointed the club is with Casboult's current form.

I was so amped for this game, then reality set in when we announced the team last night.

it's not until you look at our interchange bench that it really dawns on me, we have too many plodders picked. some foot speed and run & carry & a little elusiveness would have balanced the team out, imo. Buckley and boekhurst to maybe make way for a few of the plodders, maybe?

... for me, bell, curnow, carrots and cripps is too much replication at the expense of a dynamic runner who can break lines and take the game on. even our blue chip mids, murphy & gibbs aren't really run & carry outside players.

we're kinda once again relying on Judd to do this from the middle at 38 years of age or whatever he is. other than yarran and maybe daisy there's not too many foot races we'll win on the big surface tonight.

makes our gameplan and structures from Mick, and hunger and want from the players to be at a premium tonight to have any chance.

Mick has always had teams of plodders. Makes it easier to hold shape and manage the performance.
Little fat guys that run all day and know how to find the football ahead of flashy fast guys that run out of puff after cheating off the pack a few times.

I wouldn't look at our team the way we use to. Look for 22 even performances. Quarter to quarter. Game to game.

This.

Still, GO BAGGERS!

Chomping at the bit to head in, and it's not even Midday.

The team looks like it lacks runners for mine. I would have liked to have seen Boekhurst, Tutt and Caasboult in that line up. Wood needs Casboult as a second Ruckman. Maybe some late changes with Tutt and Caz to come in

..yep, agree fully with club29.. .... ..also, i wouldn't sell our team's run and carry short.. ..run and carry types with some good turn of pace.. ..touhy, simmo, doc, DT, Murphy, Judd, yarran will all run and carry the ball..

Really glad Clem's been given a game. Skillful, has a crack and more importantly is clean and makes good decisions.

While i'm not overly enthused by Jones or Casboult, isn't it great just to have to the competition for spots. Cas would've been handed a game last year.

Go baggers.

The problem with all our key forwards apart from hendo, isn't complicated.

None of them are any good

20 goals each from bell and Thomas, 50 goals from Tuohy, Yarran and Docherty? In your dreams.

Bell and Thomas are both expected to improve and play HF roles. A goal a game is a good return, and like I said there was room for a shortfall using those numbers. Bell scored at a goal a game in the final 7 games last season after returning from injury.

Do you think Thomas looked slow or misfiring in the NAB game compared to last year? He's going to improve dramatically; I haven't even mentioned Walker.

Yarran, Docherty and Tuohy managed 35 last year from a collective average of 19.7 games. If they all played 22 they'd score 39 going off last season, but you could easily suggest that all will improve on last year's form. Tuohy could easily kick 10-15 for the season, which would take it to 45-50 alone; Yarran was a goal a game last year.

Don't get me wrong, I hope you're right!

Putting the pressure on for Casboult I like. Jaksh seems to offer more than Bolt so Rowe becomes the relief ruck.
Pressure is on for Caboilt to perform.

Mick did it at Collingwood - giving players he was letting go at the end of the year to put pressure the better players to perform once given a chance.

Dropping players for 5 rounds really gives them a boot up the arse, they then realize they can't slack off and tend to turn it on.

Any way lets we can string three wins in a row for first time in 10+ years.
I was really looking foward to playing a depleted Cheats*, but if you don't keep records you don't get caught.

It's a shame ASADA are so hopless

weather looking great in Melbourne. It's bloody cold though and a bit windy.

Our midfield looks sensational.

Can't see the Tiggers getting on top.

Doesn't appear sluggish to me.

Plenty of running players and I expect good supply forward.

Can't wait...bring it on!

Carlton by 5 goals...feeling conservative today

Bell and Curnow - not sure I would call them plodders - didn't they finish in the top 3 in the time trials?
