.
Essendon***** are one of 4 AFL clubs that have a Nominations type committee or filtering system that endorses candidates to run for board positions. It shouldnt surprise anyone that there was only one Essendon***** candidate running in that election who openly called for Hird to step down if the players are banned.
Our sensible club, the mighty Blues will be following that constitutional change, with its own Nominations committee headed by the
independent Club President

, if the resolution is passed at the AGM on the 18th December.
All it proves Cret is that your ridiculous rhetoric is nothing but dribble.
If you want to run for a board position you can, I highly doubt the "well" credentialled people would have been recommended to the board as worthy candidates
Of course you can still run for the board..... You just won't have the blessing and endorsement of this so called InDEPENDENT nominations committee, who will have constitutional powers to place additional requirements upon any hopeful candidates. Essentially a candidate who doesn't have the endorsement of the INC becomes a challenge to the presidency and the board members.
You can marvel at the system operating at the magnificent EFC*** and it's well informed membership base. I prefer to throw that system in the bin.
And if you are a member you are entitled to vote for this supremely democratic and forward looking constitutional change on or before the AGM.
The constitutional change if voted in, will almost certainly be exploited down the track by a board and/or president and I am sure there will be current supporters of the revolution squealing the loudest.
Clearly MLG (or someone who reports to him) reads this forum. Got this email (as I'm sure we all did) an hour ago:
"Dear Robert,
There continues to be some misunderstanding and misinformation circulating about the proposed changes to the constitution. I wanted to take this opportunity to update members so that you are fully informed.
- Any member can still be nominated for the Board. The nominations process has simply been fine-tuned to provide greater accountability and transparency.
- The Independent Nominations Committee has been established to assess candidates and provide information to members about how the skills, knowledge and experience of each candidate may contribute to the Board.
- The proposed model is based on corporate best practice and governance. It has been adopted by a number of other clubs, including Hawthorn, Richmond, Essendon** and GWS, and the AFL itself
- The Independent Nominations Committee can only make recommendations – it cannot stop a nomination that complies with the nominations process.
- Members still have the power to appoint and remove directors. This is a fundamental right of the members and is not being changed in any way.
The Carlton Football Club is a proud and successful club and its members deserve a strong and effective Board.
Hopefully this further helps clarify any queries you may have had about the proposed changes.
Given the importance of the proposed constitutional changes to promoting transparency and good governance at the Club, I recommend the changes to you and encourage all members to vote."
