Mick's future will be determined by his and the team's performance next year. He certainly hasn't earned an extension at this stage, and any decision can be made at the end of next year. No-one is trying to poach him and thus far we have been performing ordinarily on and off the field.
I expect us to improve next year, despite the draw this week, we had a shocking year. Talent wise we are not great but I think we are about at the level of Nth, Richmond, WCE, Crows and yet we were 5 wins and 15% behind 8th. Our medium long future is ordinary. Maybe we are as far away from a flag as Mick was when he arrived at the Pies, Is he going to still be at Carlton in a decade at 70+? I doubt it.
What I hope is that we don't go for a short term fix that will get us to 6-8th. We need to use the draft that is where you get genuine stars. If you want to get a star via trade you give up lots and invariably really good players don't change clubs. Thomas is a leader and was a great player at the Pies but this year he was a $250k player so he needs to be a $1m player for the next three years. Getting an Everitt is good but stars come from the draft, every time you give up a draft pick, that might be Fyffe, Parker, Hanneberry, Rockcliff, Beams you miss. Look at what was available when we gave up pick #12 for McLean.
To get real class into the side we need to rely on the draft. Whoever coaches over the next 3-4 years needs to be coaching for that. Trade to get the icing but the substance of the cake is in the draft and the more picks you have the better chance you have of getting a star.
I think any assessment of clubs under 24 players would have us near 18th. I think we have a long wait and we cannot stuff up again as we have managed to do so many times.
You just hope they have a plan for the long term and don't make another list management mistake and recruit Higgins. Build a list that is capable of making the top 4...adding Higgins will tie up cap space which could be used for something far more productive.
This is an interesting comment:

Trigg said the Blues also had to add resources to their coaching department, which was “a little depleted”.
