I reckon MM has finished deprogramming the players. Now he's rebuilding them. Next year will be sizzling.
Last two years has been a bust ladder-wise, but invaluable for the long term. I'm hot for Mick.
2 years to deprogram?
Was that the goal when he took over.?
Wasn't the list quality the problem?
Are you now saying that its not the personnel but their attitude and mental application which have been contaminated by inferior programming?
Interesting apologetics.
I see the world a bit differently from you is all, Cretylus.
When an executive enters a workplace, they often write a 90-day summary of their thoughts on the new gig for their team to read. Often it summarises what they’ve seen, what’s working, what’s not, and what they’re going to do about it.
I see a coaches appointment the same, with one caveat: I think it takes the first 90 days of a premiership season for the coach to understand who ‘has’ it and who doesn’t. It’s all good and well to see players burn it up on the training track, shouting instructions like they’re born leaders, and so on, but it’s all for shit if they fail under pressure of playing for premiership points.
So when people say things like: “OMG lol he’s had two years lol,” I think to myself … well … I think to myself lol, basically. In my mind, Malthouse ‘found out’ about his players mid-season last year. And I reckon we ALL subsequently found out about them in the Sydney final.
Fast forward to almost a year later, and yes – I think Malthouse has deprogrammed the shitness out of the players. I really do. I think he’s changed the ‘near enough is good enough’ / Carlton strut / kick it to Juddy / fragile mentality of yesteryear, and replaced it with … grit I think is a suitable word.
It’s all opinion and speculation, of course.
