unless anyone is able to demonstrate that we have a revolt happening at the club (amongst players and staff), then i am a patient man and prepared to see what unfolds.

whilst it doesnt show on the win/loss register there is enough to suggest by the way the players are developng to convince me.

its hard to get substance from the anti MM mob...suggestions he isnt a developer of talent or young men lacks evidence. ask those who play for him....

Yeah fair points.
And i read an interview with Curnow the other day who was full of praise for Mick. Said the players back him 100% and he's really happy with his game under Micks guidance etc etc etc.

The number of QUALITY GOOD players re-signing long term is enough proof the players like him.

The only ones who don't are the ones who can't get a game & refuse to buy in.

They have come out and said there will be significant changes to the list. So do you really think with that in mind a player is going to come out and say MM is a goose and nobody likes him.
Please dont tell me you believe all the players are 100% behind Mick

.

I think the players said the same about Ratts. I think Miserable Mick should serve his contract, and then the decision is whether the whole package - team performance, development, membership, club profile, promotion, staff, all the things senior coaches now have a responsibility for, can be judged to be worth his salary, and will lead to a strong club on and off the field.

I reckon he has been a successful coach over his 30 years, but is past his useby date, and his off field selfishness, self righteousness and poor public communication, together with the magnitude of the job - this is 5-10years, not one or two- mean that i don't think he is the future. AnywAy great that MLG has said there won't be any contract talks till this time next year. Surely sacking our last three coaches while in contract have taught us not to sign new contracts prematurely.

I'm still not sure if he's the right man for the future, but there's no doubt that the majority of the playing group are buying into his message... that's all I care about

This also seems to be the case at previous clubs he coached

All the whining about press conferences... meh

Fair enough, but I'm not the one suggesting players are against him or that he is no good with young talent. Those that are anti MM have a weak arguement
on this point unless they can demonstrate otherwise

Surely if the majority of the players were buying in we would be performing better than 14th as he nears the end of his second year, we would be more consistent and not lose to sides like the tiges, dees, lions and gws. Its easy for players to sat they are buying in, but it is the performance every week that confirms it. We haven't had that this year.

I suggest it may be more of a reflection of our list than MM.

In season 2014 you would expect players recruited between 2008 and 2012 having an impact, would you like to list these players? Look at the Dogs, similar position on the ladder as us but their youngsters coming through are miles in front of ours, bloody MM!

So what it all boils down to is that we arent winning enough games therefore we hate mick. You people will look back next year and feel a little foolish in my opinion

Yeah great answer

[quote="Blue Vain wrote:

As someone said the other day, if Mick doesn't want his antics shown on the big screen or TV, no worries. Just forsake the 400k the club receives for coaches box advertising out off his own pay packet.
Easy.

Yeah i agree Dom, that is a great answer from BV. Basically Mick's weakness is an incapacity for genuine self reflection and self criticism and honesty, and a nasty arrogance towards people who "haven't played the game". For all his strengths as a coach they are serious character flaws, he has never addressed them, never acknowledged them and never will.

You might be right, but imo that is what makes him a great coach. He gets a team of players together that want to play for him. Say what you like but mick is a fantastic mentor of young men, and if you take the time to wade through the plethora of sensationalistic video bites portraying him as a tyrant, what you see is a genuinely good bloke. Dont give me that garbage pertaining to his playing days at richmond.

Please. A great mentor of young men?

He refuses to take responsibility for his actions and when he is caught out, he attempts to lie his way out of it so spare me the great mentor bullshit.
Yes he has been a good coach but save the character fabrications for someone else. If I want someone to be a role model to our players, he's one of the last people I'd want.

You just choose to overlook it in the hope he'll bring success to your footy club where I believe the possible reward isn't worth the compromise.

Speak to players he has coached

Like who? Alan Didak? Heath Shaw?
Quality players but also well known for lying to extricate themselves from situations they created with poor behaviour.
They had a great mentor for that as well didn't they?

I have no doubt many players like playing footy under Mick and many of them enjoy his company. But you don't just hire a football coach. You hire a person to represent your club with all their good traits and their poor ones.
So if you're willing to overlook Micks past and recent history of losing control and then lying to extricate himself or pretend it didn't happen, that's fine. I'm not.
Let him keep coaching, I don't give a rats arse but spare me the great mentor/great man bullshit. Mick is a very average human being and his past couple of weeks have only reinforced that.
His employment is symptomatic of what our club has become. Our recent history (30 years) clearly demonstrates that when it comes to achieving success, lying, cheating, any type of behaviour is acceptable. We're willing to overlook or brush under the carpet any type of behaviour if it takes us one centimetre closer to a cup.

All this thread has shown is it's become ingrained into the supporters as well. Great mentor my arse.

One thing our team is showing, is a semblance of a defensive game plan which stands up against the better teams. Our press and structure for when they're kicking out has improved out of sight. Defensively under ratten, our only defense was to attack. Players running around like fireants, and ultimately the good teams would slice us to ribbons. Not any more.

Watching the games against Hawks, cats, norf etc ... we are making it harder for teams to score against. Players are running and filling the spaces they need to, and it's happening more organically now... compared to the start of the season where players would have to think first, then act, and those few seconds would cost us. Now, they're on autopilot filling spaces and pressing their man and knowing what to do. The talk on the field has lifted 150% from last season, and even the first few rounds this season. The confidence is slowly coming together.

We get let down off turnovers because we don't have the to talent to a man to compete with the better teams, but the organisation and education of our players carrying out a gameplan along with some big individual improvement, are reasons why MM needs to be maintained going forward.

Sure, it hasn't happened as quickly as we'd have like, but just like Pantene, it is happening.

Hey Braithy,

It's a good post, but you missed having a dig at Mick.
Maybe edit and add 6-11. MM FAIL.

I find the notion of BV trying to motivate players with his ass quite disturbing.

fair enough Padre, but I'm happy to credit the coaches, and the boys when we have a good win.
Of course we'll be happy when the boys win!!!
I won't change my mind about MM representing us, and it won't solve the bigger picture,
but credit where it's due if we make top4 next year.

I intend to enjoy every win, no matter who our coach is.
