just watched last week's presser again with the Sam Lane exchange. Sure he was a bit curt, but the reaction to his comments has been way over the top.
We saw nothing last week that we haven't seen in recent years. No better and certainly no worse.
The criticism of him is a sideshow, totally irrelevant to the main game. The ability for the media to overhype a story is continually astounding, especially in the flip-flop world of AFL media.
Maclure says he hasn't seen any improvement. Okay, taking a simple win/loss look at Mick's results that is a fair comment. However he has made big improvements in a number of players. Dig a bit deeper and you begin to get a sense of the size of the task at hand.
I think we forget how flaky and how mentally weak our playing group is. It was the team's biggest flaw under Ratts and it's clearly taking a lot longer to rectify than anyone thought.
I admit I had expected better/quicker results from Mick and I waver regularly in my thoughts as to whether he's the right coach for us, but please let's not get carried away with the fact he can be a prick in a press conference.
I'm a bit the same. Good coach, poor club ambassador is the way I see it. Every so often he gets his head pulled in. Good.
I like what he is doing playing and player wise. The reality is he inherited a list on the slide that struggles under real pressure and it will take him a while to get it all right. Recruiting and Development now the keys to our future.
The improvement in Rowe, White, Yarran, Robinson, Buckley, Gibbs, Curnow, Casboult show things are improving and we rarely get blown away. I have no doubt Cripps, Graham, Docherty, Menzel will be good players. There is a base there to work on.
