We were a basket case similar to today. Going through our worst Premiership drought. Barassi coming to Carlton was the start of more than 20 years of success.

Absolutely.

You sure about that?

Really, he was elsewhere? I am shattered.

82 flag.

First time in our VFL history that we moved clear of the pack in number of flags, overtaking Collingwood who'd held the title for most of the century.

And it was at the height of possibly our greatest period...let's say, '79-82.

And it was against Richmond, who went in as favourites.

2nd place: 70 flag
3rd: 47 flag - perfect finish to a game
4th: 45 flag - came from nowhere to make the grannie
5th: securing Princes Oval, as Doc said
6th: Braddles goal against WC 94 - I was nursing a hangover high up behind the goals - the (packed) joint erupted and I certainly felt better

I haven't even looked at the list. Are any of these on it? Surely 70 has to be.

I haven't looked at the list either but if it's a moment we are taking about, it has to be Jezza's left foot goal from about 65 that bounced through to seal the 70 flag.

Orgasmic!

Yeah, that must've been something in front of the largest crowd ever. Wish I was there.

Must say I was there and my older brother who had left at half time  recorded the last five minutes which included Jezza's goal and the Peter McKenna mark that wasn't..

Harry Beitzel's words more like screams are etched in my memory for Jezza's goal.

its bouncing, bouncing, its bounced through. Carlton are going to win the premiership. They're 111 points to 100. blah, blah

For those who don't remember Harry's calling he was the role model for Rex Hunt.

At a time when the Club cops a lot of stick, I think they deserve to be congratulated for the quality of the countdown video's.

The addition of the accompanied member interviews is a very nice touch and it admirably covers the topic at hand, vividly highlighting just what Carlton means to them.

It truly is a very emotional journey.

On a personal level the ground shots of the after match celebrations from the 1968 and 1972 (and soon released 1970) Grand Finals show this tall ,skinny kid/youth running madly around the ground.

I am sure my Grandchildren will delight in their silly GF all those years ago!

Your're like that guy in the hat that appears in all the on ground Melbourne Premiership photos from the 50s and 60s - apparently just an ordinary punter but just wormed his way onto the ground and looked the part so was never evicted.

I was that skinny Agro, that I could slide between the iron posts. Certainly I nearly impaled myself on the top of the boundary fence many times during the 60's!

Dont tell me you were standing on those monster Fosters cans. That would have been pretty high up.
And if you consumed one of those as a young fella...you'd be high allright

1970 GF for me.

Coming back from 7 goals down at 1/2 time in a GF and against Collingwood!

The way Nicholls held his ground and directed the ball to Hopkins showed how he understood the game.

It's a boring choice and it's a moment I obviously didn't see live but IMO Jezza's mark is the clubs greatest moment. It's the most widely recognisable moment in our club's history, if not the history of the game. The commentary and footage has been heard/seen by millions and is widely rcognised as the greatest mark of all time in a game that has traditionally prided itself on the beauty of the high mark. Kids these days can still be heard calling 'Jesaulenko you beauty' in a game of kick to kick. I can't think of any other single event that has remained as iconic. Can understand why others choose specific moments or premierships, but I'd be shocked if Jezza's mark isn't the winner.

In terms of moments in my lifetime the 99 prelim is again an obvious one. I recall a game where SOS played at full forward against the Eagles over at subi, went for a diving mark while on the lead and knocked himself out because he threw himself forward at it with such ferocity. As a kid I'd never seen anyone attack the footy as hard as that before. I still remember it. Andew Walker's mark is a standout, and as previously mentioned, the contest against Essendon** in the early 2000s where we were undermanned, had a few late withdrawals and still got up.

If that wizened old prune Kevin Bartlett had anything to do with it, it wouldn't even be mark of the year.
