As he will have time on his hands whilst living off his fat Tax Payer funded super, he may be able to design another Smorgy Land

There won't be another Smorgyland, but in my lifetime I envisage the Hawthorn Stand being torn down and a wellness centre of some sort going in next to the Legends stand. I see our Corporate Social Responsibility playing a large part of our future. I expect a basketball court will end up replacing the grassy knoll in the not too distant future and perhaps even a Kickstarter project and a few wealthy benefactors raising funds for a rejuvenated Gardiner Stand. Maybe even a neon 'Carlton Football Club' sign illuminating 24/7 at the entrance and a complete drainage overhaul of the ground all being in place before the start of the 2015 season. All these things don't require Justin Madden, but he's a good bloke and it'd be nice to see him at the footy more often...

Whilst I agree he isn't presidential material (by his own admission), the above description of his potential value is far to simple and dismissive IMO. His experience in managing dual stakeholders objectives and functions, both corporate or public, would be of benefit to any club board, particularly in the area of corp governance/accountability. On a side note, ongoing club success requires a long term venue strategy with vision, whilst no need for a Smorgyland, there's much more to it than simply drainage, signage and stand.
