There's a lot of rubbish sprouted in this thread.
Like complaining about Waite's contract. You guys realise that only half of it counts in the cap right? But if we only gave him 2 years, and signed him again for this year (or are you suggesting we should cut him?), then we'd only save $112 500, so he would actually cost us more cap space.
Eddie is not worth anything like 500. As sad as it is to lose him, it's a good thing that we didn't concede to his demands.
Waite's situation reminds me too much of the Whitnall situation. Big and long contracts offered for little output.
At least Lance made All-Australian one year on the back of kicking 8 goals in 2000 against Brisbane (a quality team) and the like.
Waite has been given long and big contracts for what type of output?
He once got a 3rd placing in the best and fairest back in 2007 when Carlton's team was far worse than what it is now.
No doubt he is talented, no doubt he is skilled etc, no doubt he kicked a couple of good goals against Richmond in the final - but does that add up to a 1.3 million dollar contract? I agree with Synbad - a better understanding of how to negotiate contracts is needed otherwise Carlton will be hampered when they want to recruit good players in trades.
I hope Waite has a big year next year- that would be fantastic, but based on his output to date Carlton (as with the Whitnall situation...again another key forward) have been done over pretty comprehensively.
