You know where tanking gets you ...
where we are now and where melbourne are.
winning culture is far more valuable that a few places in the draft!
Looks at Swans and Geelong. Do you think they would tank for a a couplw players higher in the draft...
And which of first rounders are tearing teams apart?
Boots, yarran, lucas, watson?
That finals win brought me more joy than any other in the last decadd.
also showed us gibbs is ready to become elite

Spot on

If we hadn't of got Judd we would be an absolute rubble of a team. Just another Melbourne, we can sit here and say we should have got pick 6 etc but look at Geelong Hawthorn and Sydney it's about the draft. Hell look at Crameri for Essondon* he was pick 26 and looking back at that draft if you knew then he was easily top 3. ( hind sight I know)

It's time move forward.

The finals win brought me a lot of joy as well after this disastrous season.

Seems to have worked for the hawks
Seems to have worked for the pies

Both teams tanked to get top 10 picks and both have won premierships SO IN YOUR FACE

the eagles tanked the last few games this year and they have some nice draft picks waiting for them.

The club had an opportunity to put an end to to 2013. Score a top 10 draft pick and be better positioned in the draft. Instead, we walk away with pick 12 and because we finished 6th, this means we get a much tougher draw next year rather than if we finished 12th.

Pick 6 compared to 12 or 13 is very significant. Especially when we don't really have any players with much trade value.

We can flower up pick 6 just as badly as pick 12, player development is the key, we just don't have it.

The pies, hawks, ducks tanked the end of a.season that was already over.
one season. Not 5-7 after 5 years at the bottom.
Tanking is russian roulette with your club soul

Well said MM. I find it amazing some people still can't see it.
Some on TC even raised these points at the time and were belittled by the usuals.

You dont tank because you deserve to be in the finals.. u tan because your organisation is shit...and youd win 2 games more... but u dont to take 2 players in the top 5
if you won 2 games more .. and took one player.. youre not a winner!!!...

and if you cant choose 2 players who are going to be any good ... why would u be better if you chose just one player???

see surrey.. i dont get your logic

were u saying we were very good but we tanked??

or are you saying... if we had one pick 2 picks later ... it would have been better than having two picks in the first 5 picks one of whom u can choose any kid in the country before anyone else has first dibs.

i often hear u saying this but explain yourself...

Where do u see us tanking and where were we if we didnt tank???

This is the frustrating thing with YOU surrey.. your half baked posts

Do you think by losing a game or 2 extra .... were not talking even being anywhere near finals or even mid table ... we got into a loser mentality???... when we could have finished 14th out of 16 and had say pick 4 or 5.. like the year we chse russell and not franklin and roughead???
or russell and not murphy and kennedy/ judd??

tanking didnt give us a losing culture.. shitness did!!!...
Your mate elliott set the ball moving and your other mate sticks.. is perpetuating it with shitness!!!...
Shitness in all its glory... brown... sloppy hot stinking shitness...

the club doesnt know how to be a good club.. thats why the AFL have systems in place to help the shit clubs.. without these systems.. (early picks) we would be even worse... than we are now...
Theyre there to help the shit clubs... clubs that would have taken Knobel over Betts... Saddington/OReilly/Hadley/Mott and a galxy of other dead stars

Plus some really shocking drafting and development...

Both points of view are equally right and wrong. You can't have a winning culture if you don't have the players to win, that's called mediocrity. Mediocrity will only get you to the bottom eventually unless you have a lot of luck.

A 'winning culture' is such a nebulous concept and whatever it means it goes well beyond a simple win/loss ratio in the positive. Until I see good evidence that we are actually being progressive off field I don't think we should be smugly extolling the virtues of a winning culture because we certainly don't have it, tanking or no tanking.

I demand you begin thinking about your posts.
OK?

It's annoying to just read stuff that has no basis of thought.
Nothing to do with picking on you just can't handle stuff with no logic or thought....

Its scary. :yikes:

We shouldn't have tanked.... Lol
Think about that statement .... And explain yourself....

What players on our list are AA quality, deserve to be on big dollars??

I can think of very few

So why is it we don't seem to have a lot of dough to attract players of note??

Shit management clearly

Well that eliminates one attribute by deduction

Look at the top clubs and the number of top quality players they have and try and understand why is it we are fairly close to being close to our salary cap limit and apparently can only add one top liner but these top clubs seem to add top players willy nilly

Hmmm

WTF !!

Reason for that is because we are still paying Stephen o"Reilly what we owe him.

Can you show us the salary cap situation for Hawthorn and Fremantle and then tell us how fairly close to being close to our salary cap limit we are?

I mean, how close to be being close the salary cap limit are we anyway?
