The whole Thomas situation is a farce. Mick talks about boosting the midfield yet Thomas averages substantially less possessions than Murphy, Judd or Gibbs.
He also averages significantly less for tackles.
If we want a hardened ball winner who tackles and uses the ball well, he's hardly what we want.
Let alone making him our highest paid player on an extended contract.
If Mick wants someone to kick the ball with, theres cheaper and better options. Lets target a decent inside player who can apply better defensive pressure than what we already have. Not less.
Averages this, averages that?......
Career maybe but the Thomas we would hope to be getting is the 2010, 2011 version. We all know his deficiencies prior to that.
In those 2 years he laid more tackles than anyone for us in 2013 bar Curnow.
Say his ankle is stuffed, say we are paying too much, say he's only had 2 good years etc but dont tell me him at his best wouldn't make us a better offensive and defensive unit.
5 year contract to "hope" we're getting the 2010/11 version. What happened in 2012?
20 games. Averaging less tackles than Murphy, Judd, Gibbs this year?
3rd in their B&F once. How will he go being number 1 banana instead of having Swan and Pendlebury to take the heat for him.
I'm happy to get him but not on a 5 year contract and making him our highest paid player. That's stupidity IMO.
You can say "averages this, averages that" but the averages are the actual data of his career. They reflect his output.
As does his rating by their coaches in their B&F. If he's so good, why hasnt he won a B&F? Why hasnt he been a runner up?
Because he's a good average footballer.
