Its the old fashioned rope a dope
We absorb punishment and let them run the gas tank further towards empty and then lift the intensity in the second half and steam roll.

Lets be honest we would need peptides to maintain that intensity for 4 qtrs :smoking:

Whatever works.

I hear Carlton has officially asked the AFL to start 5 goals down at the beginning of all games.

Hate our game plan we have to change ( i know 2 great wins) but watch how port freo hawks play . There style alway find someone in a better position, EG always a teamate running past for a handball, space in fwd line, fwds leading direct , all year i have been saying we have to copy ther style so change preseason training to suit for 2014. Any way hope we can beat swannetts.

Considering the fact that MM is working to make our list much more defensively accountable, this gameplan could become far more effective in time...possibly an upgrade on the Lyon/Freo plan. Absorb everything the opposition brings, without ending up 30+ points down, possibly breakeven or 6-10 points at half time, THEN rebound with improved fitness and bigger bodies next year. It could really work, providing we become one of the best defensive sides in the comp. Are we seeing some minor successes beginning to be seen with a prototype 2014 Carlton/Malthouse gameplan?

With interchange caps coming in all teams might start doing this to kill minutes to make sure they can run out the game. Playing in different modes to make sure their energy is best used on their terms.

In the end the game will end up similar to that track cycling race where they ride a load of laps real slow and then take off.

One team floods back to absorb so the other team not wanting to found banging their heads against a wall go stand at the other end to absorb with the ball sitting still in the centre of the ground. Two players from each team slowly circling for 19 mins. It is going to be awesome.

Does anyone really think our slow starts are by design? Spare me.
Even the players admit the coach gave them a spray about their first half. We'll get smashed if we give Sydney 19 inside 50s in the first quarter.

We gave away 4 goals in the 2nd from free kicks... 3 of them were 50m penalties... that alone deserved a spray

You don't want to be five goals down?

The knowledgeable ones say malthouse has reinvented the game and he is a genius.

It must be true.

The same ones that have criticised the list all year as not good enough and no longer than 3 weeks ago and in need of a rebuild because Micky told them so.

The same ones enjoying the players exploits on the weekend because Micky told them so.

What will Micky tell them next week that they might digest?

Did someone shit in your coffee this morning?

I swear you could fall into a bag of tits and come out with a dick in your mouth.

Your team won (I'm assuming Carlton's your team right?).

Try enjoying it.

It's fun!

Not necessarily by design....but perhaps mm has taught them to realise when the opposition is on top and to control the tempo of the game better, defend, etc.

Sure beats Ratts "hold the ball in the air" theory.

May I point out that I was the first to use the term rope a dope on TC

As such I accept the egg all over my face when the team tries it once too often (better not be this week).

On on the other hand the MM haters will blame him for the losses, and give credit to the list for the wins, and we go around and around again...

You told us we screwed up at selection by not picking Lucas and Casboult therefore reducing our running power and marking ability. How did that work out?

Its the same shit every week. We pick 22 and you all come out screaming that we should have picked the other 18.

If we play 5 talls to 4, we are "too top heavy" if we play 4 talls to 5 "we are going in with a team of midgets".

If we lose its because 'they didn't do what I said they should do' when we win its because 'they are finally doing what I said they should do'.

Give some credit where it is due and acknowledge that perhaps a guy with 30 years experience might have more idea than some of us....

OMG! Redback so true lolz

Every time we win it's because of the players
Every time we lose it's because of Mick

Why can't TC people see that?
So obvious!
If they can't see that, they must be brainwashed .... it's all a plot.
Imagine being delusional enough to want to give any credit to a loser like Mick who has only won a few premierships? DERRR!
