Hawthorn had their line in the sand game against Essendon* a few years back.
It is time for Carlton to create their line in the sand match. Carlton might lose - as Hawthorn did all those years ago - but once they cross that bridge it will signify they won't be physically bullied anymore.
if one refers to Port Adelaide - one can see a remarkable change in their character this year.
I enjoy watching them because they give an honest 100% physical effort. Justin Westhoff - never the most physical player to play the game - lined up Watson legitimately on the weekend with a legal hip and shoulder. This would never have happened 2 years ago.
On the weekend, one of St Kilda's key midfielders- Leigh Montagna, Lenny Hayes or Nick Dal Santo - should be the target for a physical battering -legal physical battering.
They can be taken out of the game as an effective player for them (legitimately) with a solid hip and shoulder. One doesn't have to make it a head high hit for it to be effective as we saw with Westhoff.
Walker is the only one I can see who can do this type of action. Maybe Carrazzo or Tuohy...but it has to be someone other than Judd or Murphy who wants to be a real leader for the club.
These are the only three I can see who are capable of stepping up to be physical leaders. Perhaps Menzel down the track. A loss one can handle, but to suffer meekly physically to the opposition - that time has surely passed. A loss is a loss, but a loss of will power to put your body on the line should not occur again. Tackle hard, bump hard, get the hard ball. If they do this and lose so be it.
