Yep I am generally a fan of Curnow and Cachia. They always put in massive efforts.
But there's been a theory going round lately that our midfield might be erring too far on the side of lock-down / tagging.
I think there might be a bit of sense in that.
The Pies midfield is still pretty decent, and we need to match them.
IMO it's been a bigger issue than our forward line.
we really do lack depth in ball winning ability.
Do you have anything to actually back that up?
We're 3rd in contested possessions per game, 4th in clearances per game and 4th in inside 50s per game.
Thats top 4 in the AFL for winning the ball and getting it inside 50.
Not only that, we're 2nd in the AFL for clearances per game compared to our opposition so not only do we win the ball, we prevent our opposition winning it. "Lack depth in ball winning ability"? Our ball winning is OK, as it has been for the past 4 years.
All that with our vice captain missing most games and our captain currently out with a broken jaw. 2 of our best midfielders.

Its our uncontested ball thats killing us. That wont change while we continue to kick long to contests instead of hitting up runners on the spread.
That and a lack of decent forwards to capitalise on the hard work of the mids/defenders.
I could not agree with you more.
The most frustrating part of watching Carlton play.
We just do not work hard enough to create space /run hard into space once in possession. Get that right and we'll bat deep into September. Starts with our amateur kick ins from FB and falls apart after that...unless we are lucky enough on the odd occasion to suck in the opp defenders up the ground and Hollywood Betts/Garlett/Yarran run onto it.
