I don't see why Hampson can't continue down that route. I agree that this set of 3 ruckmen isn't going to work, but there's no reason to suggest that it can't be done in general.
Hammer may be able to continue down that route but he has to learn the craft in the Magoos - we cannot afford him the luxury of learning on the job in the Ones if he can't make a halfway decent contribution
Can't say I subscribe to that one.
Look how many scrubs are kicking bags at VFL level that aren't even given a second look at AFL level. Or how many kick a bag one week, and then don't get a kick the week after, as a result of playing on mudslicks or their AFL team has called up half their midfield?
Such notable former members of our playing list to be kicking bags in the twos on a regular basis are Cain Ackland and Brad Fisher. Hardly a glowing endorsement. If they drop Hampson this week, and he goes and kicks 10 against whatever VFL line up, are you more or less convinced to his credentials?
For whatever reasons - whether its MM seeing something in Hampson, whether its a lack of confidence in the other options, or lacking in that middle tier of players as a result of our drafting being completely shite, they've decided to persevere with him. Same with Lucas. I have no qualms about it.
Until it's clear that Hampson offers far less both currently and long term than Casboult, Rowe or Mitchell, I reckon it's a no brainer he stays in the side.
