Our Membership is crawling at the moment ,42000+ fans is clearly not good enough for a club like Carlton.I just wonder if appointing Mick Malthouse and not Paul Roos has TURNED former members off becoming members for this year. Not only do we have less members than pies, tigers, hawks and dons but we also have less support at these games.Against Richmond even though it was our home game I believe they had more supporters

Not sure how you consider 42,000 a crawl. We're well on track to post record membership.

Paul Roos declined to be considered for the Carlton senior coach position. Given the media coverage at the time, I'm at a complete loss that someone didn't know this - however if you were hiding under a rock in Afghanistan during that time - thank you for your service.

Not quite correct there. We had an average of 42,036 attend our home games last season. That's on par with Essendon*, but more than Richmond. It was 4,000 less than Hawthorn and 7,000 less than Collingwood.

Probably about a 60/40 split our way (considering home game memberships) from the 80,971 in attendence - but they certainly made more noise. It's a little irrelevant from my point of view anyway - as we split roughly $700,000 in gate takings from Thursday night - so the more people who turn up, the better off we are. Richmond fans will come out of the woodwork....they might have 52,000 members - but don't focus too much on the number where they're concerned - we could finish 10,000 members behind them but still have the same revenue derived from membership sales.

Hi Doc,
I know that Paul Roos knocked the job back but I am wondering had he approved the job do you believe we would have more members ,I think we would ,there are Carlton supporters who loathe M.M. for a number of reasons and like Paul Roos
Regarding revenue I have been saying for a long time its not how many members we have but the amount generated but even so we should have more members than every Victorian Team except the Pies and we dont Why

I don't believe there are too many people in the 'I hate Malthouse, so I'm not buying a membership' camp. I also don't believe the figure changes that much with Roos as coach. As much as I like Paul Roos, I think Carlton fans might have got impatient with Roos answering a question with a question. At any rate - if you can't support Mick, make an effort to familiarise yourself with Rob Wiley and support him. Marvelous man.

Like Richmond, we have a number of supporters who will come out of the woodwork at the hint of success. A fast start was probably crucial to getting those to sign up. I'd be interested to see how well or poor we do with retention. There's a number of factors to consider, but I'd suggest Essendon* has done well out of playing the 'them vs us' card so far this season with reference to their drug scandal. Getting to 50,000 is the key. Confident we'll achieve it. Sooner if we beat the Pies.

Well said about Wiley. He's Malthouses alter-ego and impossible to dislike.

Touch and go to get to 50K as you'd want to be at around the 85-90% mark of target by now and not 80% which is where we're sitting.

Going to take some tricky deals to draw in another 8K from now and 48K may be more likely all considered, unless Jeanne wants to pick up the shortfall.

Yep, last year we won the first 3 games. IF we lose the first 3 (and it is possible or even likely) then we may struggle to match last years figures.

Only 7758 to go......looks achievable at 2500 per month for the next 3 months (April May June)

Need some success in the next few games...0 wins doesn't help, but a win against the Pies, and that will tell us if 50000 is realistic.....need a spike not a slowdown.

Onya Dane...got your fingre on the pulse

Win tonight and we will make 50k easy.

Lose and poor old Swanny will be looking for a new job.

Pity, there's probably 8 or so board members and flunky's who should go before him.

a) how are the numbers disappointing Surrey? and b) how have the AFL done what you suggest they've done?

Hawthorn had 15,000+ more members than us last year (over 60,000) and our revenue from membership was comparable. Measure the money. Don't get caught up in the PR number too much.

Swan is contracted to the end of 2014. Will probably go then I'd suggest and not before.

So why are we talking numbers then?

Thought you said numbers were all important. 50k, the G and all that.

Re Swan, leave or not have his contract renewed?

It appears his only role is to take the heat. He must envy Cameron Schwab.
