I'd expect a lot of players to get a senior game this year as Mick gets to know the list - I'd also expect a fair cleanout at the end of the year. For me Joseph would be long odds to be at Carlton next year, but I'm more than happy for him to get a chance to impress (or not) the new coach. He must be doing something right to get a game. Having watched him over a few years we all know he has some pretty big limitations though so I'm looking forward to seeing whether Malthouse can improve on these. A negating midfield role? Would still leave Armfield, Touhy and Yarran to play on smaller quicker forwards. My expectations for the first half of the year aren't that high as we adjust to the new coach, and the Tiges weren't that far away from September action last year. Would not be surprised at all if we go down tomorrow night.

You're not allowed to play the emergencies.

Hello AK43,yes Richmond downing us wont surprise me either, but it will dissapoint me a little.
I think it's fair to say if both teams bring there A game it could be a very close encounter.
Whoever wins,i'd just like to see a close well fought game & the blues to runaway 4goal winners, cheer's Murph....

....so, 2 talls fwd and 2 back, much better than the last game when we were too top heavy, we've got plenty of run back into the side.. ..Krooz to ruck vast majority of the game i reckon, currently looking to be fully fit, no strapping or banadages on game days and training days which is brilliant to see, we effectively get an extra runner with his movements..

..i think up fwd bolt and hammer will make up for their inexperience kpf craft with enthusiasm, all pre-season they've just been throwing their bodies at the ball.. ..HF line looks mobile, and good running speed and endurance, will work further up the ground to provide linkup options..

Do bell and laidler just need more time to learn the new game plan. Joseph a smart footballer can play to instruction what mick wants.

Joseph a smart footballer? Smart footballers don't pass across the face of goal on the half back line in the last quarter of a tight elimination final. They play the percentages and go long down the line

I will not even pretend to understand the decision regarding Laids. Named emergency so wouldn't surprise if he was a late call up. Having said that if he stays out then so be it. The Bootsma selection is the one that confuses me. I know he has good reach and closing speed on a leading player but he gets rag-dolled one on one. Also thought he was pretty ordinary in the NAB GF. Panicky. Poor disposal. Poor decision making. You look through your side and look for weak links... he is the obvious weak link

I agree with every word cranium. Bootsma in the nab final looked to have no poise at all. It was hot potato stuff.

You think Laidler is a legitimate option on Reiwoldt?

Possibly, possibly not, but he'd be ok on Edwards or Vickery (or do you forget him on resting rucks last year). Which means Hendo would go to Riewoldt.

Anyway, in Mick we trust, I get it. And I guess he's trusting in Jamo and Hendo standing up.

Maybe Mick's judging him on how he's responded to what he's asked him to do so far rather than what he was asked to do under a coach who had no @#$%&! idea?

Maybe Mick's building a "team" where you have to follow instructions.

Maybe Joseph has followed all instructions so far?

We're paying a million dollars a year to a bloke who's won three flags and we want to piss on him because he selects a player who's not in some people's list of favourites.

FMD.

Let him work through the list in his own way and judge him when he's had a chance.

Settle down mate. I made a comment in regards to Joseph being a smart footballer. While he does have some good qualities, you can't tell me that's one of them. His decision making has constantly let him down.

I want to piss on mick because I disputed whether Joseph is a smart footballer? Ok

Surprised a bit.
Adds to the excitement.

Mick's made his mark and challenged a few players it seems: true to his word.
Expect him to play 35 players at a min this year...hopefully not because of injury...that's him.
He has to develop a whole list let alone best 25 and that will take time for all to learn.
I hope Webster in the Bullants knows the game plan.

I like Walker as a lead up as it makes him come to the ball and get more involved than NAB.
He should go OK on the big wwwide MCG.

No doubt I would have selected Laidler ahead of Bootsma, and Bell ahead of a couple of others.
I'd also have Waite and Scotland in too if I could. They'll be knocking on the door in 3-4 weeks.
Everyone knows their position is not guaranteed, hence the Laidler move.

I reckon there's a bit of shock factor for the Carlton fraternity behind that move. I do feel that Laidler's kicking was off in the early NAB games, and I did like what Joseph did in the NAB even moreso than Lucas  but that's me. Lucas deserves his spot but he's going to have to play well to keep it.

I expect a huge improvement in form from NAB stuff from Carrazzo, Simpson, Yarran, Tuohy, Walker, Betts and Garlett. 10% improvement from those guys and we win by 10 goals. I don't expect all of them to fire but I do so from Carrazzo, Simmo and Tex.

We MUST win. MUST. Can't wait........bloody nervous too.

4 goal win for mine. Hammer will give them headaches, and so will Casboult.

I agree.
If Hammer and Casboukt are up and about, and our mids can pump it in long, I think they can really surprise a few doubters and pile on a heap of goals (particularly with Eddie crumbing).

I think Chaplin is a good addition, but I still don't rate their back line that highly.
They win their games in the midfield

But seriously...guys like Joseph & Ellard are exactly the types that should improve under a bloke like Malthouse. We can't expect them to just not get a run.

Bootsma is the interesting one for me. He got thrown around last year against the Hawks...with Coll Geel WCE Adel to come I wonder what the plan is.

Hope Hammer and Levi kick better than they did at training on Wednesday morning. Dropped in to watch them and they were having shots at goal from various distances and angles. Sad to say that they couldn't hit the side of a barn from what I saw. Hopefully it will click on Thursday night.

That's just unbelievably shoddy. Missed by the journo AND the sub-editor. Pathetic!

We have better stuff on here.
